NFL 2021: Week Seven Deadly Sins

Here’s the video; that really is horrible, and I wonder who the heck he thought he was throwing it to.

I think that he was trying to shovel over the defender to the receiver in the end zone. #14, I think.

But still a terrible decision.

New Scorigami today.

The most recent Scorigami for an NFL game occurred on October 24, 2021, when the Arizona Cardinals defeated the Houston Texans by a score of 31–5.

Wouldn’t that be the 38-3 Buccs Bears score?

Nope; a “Scorigami” is a score which has never previously occurred in an NFL game; the link that @Telemark shared indicates that there had never previously been a 31-5 game. A 38-3 score has happened 18 previous times (source).

Oh. What’s the highest scorigama?

Looks like it wasn’t an interception after all, but a fumble recovered by the defense!

72-41, which is also the highest-scoring game in NFL history, in which Washington beat the New York Giants in 1966.

The WFT beat the Giants 72-41 (113 points total) in 1966.

Here is a graph in which you can see the final scores that have never been recorded, and thus are possible candidates for the next scorigami.

You can also see all the final scores that have been recorded, as well as the count of each score, similar to the link posted by @kenobi_65.

Thanks! I love stuff like that

Unfortunately your link just goes to the main NFL video page and doesn’t show the video. :frowning:

(NFL’s web site sucks.)

Here’s the Carson Wentz shovel int.

Bad for sure - but not as downright dreadful as Mahomes’ of last week.

Think they’ve disappeared the video, now that it’s no longer an interception.

That seems to be from a month ago.

Whoever ruled that a fumble seems to be blind. He certainly shoveled that one handed.

Okay I believe I found the video:

And yeah that was awful.

Fun fact, I was Googling “Carson Wentz shovel pass interception” and when I got to “sho” it wanted to autocomplete to “Carson Wentz should retire”. That’s not even a joke.

the nfl blocked it all ready

You are right. I searched on “Carson Wentz shovel pass int” and that’s what came up. I didn’t think there’d be more than one.

And now that I’ve seen today’s version, I agree it’s solidly within the “astoundingly bad” category.

Yeah it’s not even debatable. He very, very clearly threw it. The only reason to rule it a fumble is if you have some reason to protect his stats. He flung his right hand forward and the ball flew out of it. He might have lost his hold as he was throwing but if the ball is propelled by his arm going forward it’s by definition a pass.

Or maybe someone who hasn’t watched football before and doesn’t know what a shovel pass is thought that doesn’t count as a pass and ruled it a fumble by default. That’s the only other explanation I can come up with.
