NFL 2023: WEEK THREE ring circus

No, the doubleheaders were already scheduled before the strike. The strike has resulted in some additional MNF games being shown on ABC instead of exclusively on ESPN, but it isn’t the reason there are two.

As for why there are more doubleheaders this year, it’s because Disney (ESPN/ABC owner) bought the rights to show additional games.

Dallas CB Trevon Diggs is done for the year. Torn ACL in practice.

I think there are some clear tiers in that list. Carr & Jimmy G are in one tier. Carson Wentz is in his own tier of utter shittiness. And Dalton was in that Carr tier 10 years ago, but now he’s just old and really crappy. He was dog shit with the Bears 2 years ago and he can’t have gotten better with age.

I’m going with Herbert then. I like to live dangerously

Colts’ Anthony Richardson hasn’t been cleared, so Gardner Minshew will start Week 3 against the Ravens.

That’s fine! He’s a great backup! He held down the fort for us!

I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my fantasy team last week and saw that Nico Collins scored 24 points on my bench. With Saquon out I need to press an extra wide receiver into service, and Collins seems like the right man for the job. Go Nico!

(My other two options are Skyy Moore, who actually put up 14 points last week, and Hollywood Brown, who appears to be dying on the vine in Arizona.)

Regarding tonight’s game, I picked up some Jack Daniels at the package store this week. Tonight might be cause to crack the seal.

The 49ers’ offense is consistent.

Lot, that’s wild. How long can the keep it going.

Tua Tagovailoa has won 9 consecutive games against coaches that have won Super Bowls (including last week’s victory over Bill Belichick). If the Dolphins win against the Broncos, coached by Sean Payton, he’ll make it 10 in a row. It’s Miami’s first home game of the season, so they should have a raucous crowd, but we’ll see.

Dalton was remarkably effective for the Saints last year. His bad year for the Bears is adequately explained by… Bears.

Browns RB Nick Chubb’s knee injury appears to be a torn MCL, but not a torn ACL (which appears to only be stretched), which may be promising news for his recovery, and ability to resume his career next season.

Maybe dislocating the knee kept the ligament from snapping.

Ok, Schefter has confirmed ‘inappropriate activity’
as a reason for Alan Williams’ sudden resignation

Jets offense is looking ‘dreadful,’ to quote Jim Nantz. It’s actually so bad it has become full-on comedy, so it does have at least some entertainment value.

Wow, Amari Cooper was just called out of bounds where neither of his feet were within 1 foot of the sideline, and the ref was literally right there. Cost an extra 30 yards and a TD. Absurdly bad call and something so simple. It wasn’t like the ref needed to judge whether it was a catch either, he was maintaining possession in bounds and the ref had nothing else to do but look at his feet.

Penalties (and generally poor play) are killing the Packers. I’ve officially stopped watching today’s game.

Brian

Browns fans have been saying former defensive coordinator Joe Woods was terrible and holding the team back, and although there have been some improvements particularly on the D-line, it does seem like Jim Schwartz is a completely different, far more effective DC. Browns D is dominating so far this year. If Watson is capable of even league average play (and today is the first day he’s looked pretty solid) the Browns should have a chance in every game.

Chubless run-game is not looking great though. Browns could’ve been one of the best run and play defense style teams of recent years if Chubb was still in there.

I was too young to remember the Dolphins in 1984, when Marino threw 48 touchdowns. But I have to think this is what it was like; Miami put up a team record number of points today against the Broncos. The defense did enough (it created some turnovers), but the offense looks ridiculously stacked - they didn’t even play with Jaylen Waddle today.

I apologize to fellow Packer fans. I went to an Art Fair, had a couple drinks, and spent time with the family instead of watching the Packers. 17-0 when I got home. My bad.
