NFL 2023: WEEK THREE ring circus

Is this the first year they started cramming ads into Red Zone?

Just gotta say that I LOVE having the Sunday Ticket on YouTubeTV. I don’t want to see Taylor Swift and the Bears sucking ass this afternoon. Instead, I’m watching the Cards vs Cowboys and wondering the Cards implode again like last week or can they hold on?

Yikes at the bears. That’s the biggest dumpster fire the the NFL right now. They’re so incredibly incompetent in every phase of the game, it’s incredible.

I haven’t seen any.

About 2 minutes before I posted, for example, they did one of those things where the put the content of the channel into a box and then had a stationary ad (for some SUV) around it. It wasn’t a commercial break, but rather integrating advertising images into the broadcast.

Something big has to change in the Bears organization. I mean they’ve sucked. They’ve sucked hard, for lots of years. And they’ve tried different quarterbacks, and different lines, and on and on. And they suck worse than I remember, and I remember Walter Payton’s days when at least they would knock an opponent on their ass.
Something big has to change, It’s as if they aren’t even interested in winning.

When a team takes heart in “hey, at least we didn’t give up 70 points,” things aren’t going well.

I looked it up out of curiosity; there have been 15 games in which a team has scored 60 points, though to get to 15 you have to go back so far that you include a game between the Akros Pros and the Oorang Indians, and no I didn’t make that up.

“Where is Oorang?” you are asking; Oorang is nowhere, there is no such place. It was a brand of dog products owned by the team’s owner. Their offiical home was Larue, OH, but they played almost all their games on the road.

The “Indians” name wasn’t just a nickname; the owner had a thing for aboriginal culture and decided he wanted a team made entirely of American Indians. He himself wasn’t an American Indian, so why he got this in his head I am not sure; it would be like if I bought an NHL team and decided I only wanted Norwegians to play for it. Of course, this meant the Indians’ talent pool included Jim Thorpe, so they got Thorpe. Restricting your talent pool that way isn’t a great idea, of course, but they did manage to win four games, which isn’t bad if you’re deliberately excluding the vast majority of the talent pool and the owner doesn’t care about winning and is just trying to pitch dog merchandise.

I wonder if it’s your provider. I’m watching on YouTube TV.

thats called picture in picture and yeah a lot of sports are doing it now

Miami had an opportunity at the end of the game to kick a field goal, which would’ve given them 73
points and the record. Coach McDaniel instead decided to run out the clock.

He actually was a ball boy for the Broncos when he was a kid. I’m proud of him today, and I think he did the right thing showing sportsmanship rather than set the record.

The only real knock on him last season was that he missed four games, and the team was decidedly less effective without him at quarterback. He took jujitsu over the off-season to learn to fall better, so as to avoid concussions, and bulked up about 10 to 15 pounds

From what I’ve seen so far this season, he’s also getting excellent pass protection. Tua also doesn’t hold the ball very long, so he’s managed to avoid sacks.

Achane had the fastest 40 time at last year’s combine. He is a rookie so he doesn’t have a track record, but you may be eating your words about discounting him by the end of the season.

Miami played without its number two wide receiver, Jalen waddle. He’s nearly as fast as Tyreek Hill and has been clocked out over 20 mph already this season.

I’m not saying that 70 points is realistic for any future games, but Miami wasn’t playing with his full arsenal today (although left tackle Terron Armstead did finally play this season)

Being a Dolphin fan hasn’t been this fun since I was a teenager watching Marino take them to the playoffs in the early 90s. But even then they weren’t this explosive.

The trade for Tyreek Hill has supplanted Paul Warfield from Cleveland as best trade in team history. Barring serious injury or scandal, he’s a future hall of famer - he’s certainly playing at that level. Just having him on the field changes the game.

And Tua is for real. He has been criticized for supposedly having a weak arm, but it is certainly not evident when he’s playing. What is clearly apparent is his accuracy, and his ability to find the open man.

The defense hasn’t struck me as strong enough for a championship, though. They have playmakers, and have made some big plays, but it has such a “bend but don’t break” feel - I predict some shootouts later this season. Then again, the team gets Jalen Ramsey back healthy in December, which will serve a playoff bound team well.

I’m pretty excited to see how this all plays out.

Not a huge football fan, but I gotta ask: 70 points has to be 80%/20% defense being bad / offense being good at minimum, right? Like, taking advantage of opportunities isn’t always easy, but no defense in a pro league should allow anything close to 70?

Absolutely; the Dolphins scored the most points in a game since 1966 and accumulated the most total yards since 1951 today. This sort of thing just doesn’t happen very often at the pro level.

I hate it when teams get right to the threshold of breaking a record but stop short. This is a once-in-2-generations opportunity!

Yeah, but it would also have been just running up the score even more in order to achieve that record.

Herbert was the right choice (29 pts versus Cousins 25), thanks.

My opponent had Denver as the team Defense so I would have won anyway :joy:

In the Colts’ 22-19 overtime victory at Baltimore against the Ravens, Matt Gay became the first kicker in NFL history to hit four field goals of 50 yards or longer in a single game.

Meanwhile, did anybody else notice that Taylor Swift is a Chief’s fan?

Nope! She was at the game? Never saw her, they were too busy focusing on the action on the field.

Just noticed the pathetic Broncos play the pathetic Bears next week.

One team has to win, right? This won’t end 0-0, I think.

Well I guess in hindsight I’m feeling better about the Giants falling behind the Cardinals in the first half last week.
