NFL 2024-25: Week 2

Barely one quarter into Cowboys - Saints and it’s obvious: Cleveland’s offense SUCKS. New Orleans is having the Dallas D for breakfast. lunch and dinner.

Browns kicker got called for being offside (or something similar) for crossing the 50 before the kick was caught. Weird rule. Erased a fumble recovery. Had no impact on the play.

Cowboys’ failure to shore up their defense in the offseason is coming to bite them hard. Getting blown out by the Saints at home right now.

At the half, the Packers lead 10-0 (and, yeah, they should have a bigger lead than that). They’ve run the ball 34 times, for 237 yards; Josh Jacobs has carried 20 times for 128. Malik Willis is 4 out of 5 passing, for 25 yards and a touchdown.

They controlled the ball for 23 minutes of the half.

The all-time NFL record for most time of possession in a single game is about 48 minutes. If the Packers build up a substantial lead they might just keep running and then could plausibly get within reach of the record.

I’m “watching” the Packers through Yahoo play by play and I can’t remember when a team played “hide the quarterback” so effectively.

I’m not sure it’s sustainable, especially with the self-sabotage (with penalties and fumble) the Packers are doing. Richardson may decide to give up the pocket passing thing he’s trying and run the ball and Taylor is one of the best. The game should’ve been out of reach already, so I’m not overly confident that the Packers win this one.

40:11.

Browns punter just did one of the greatest punts of all time, it hit the 1 yard line and immediately bounced right at the sideline, and the next play was a safety.

New Orleans beats Dallas 44-19 for a scorigami.

The Raiders just might pull off a comeback…the word being might

the punt

Despite everyone’s best efforts, someone had to win the Jags/Browns game.

wow they pulled it off … im surprised…

Seattle wins in what I thought was a pretty good way. Down by 3 with less than a minute to go, they fail to convert a 3rd and 1 on the 15 yard line, so whatever, they kick a field goal to tie it.

Kick the ball back to New England who goes three and out. Patriots punt back to Seattle but with seconds left the Seahawks just decide to run out the clock and go to OT.

Patriots win the coin flip so start, but yet again go three and out. Have to punt, and then Seattle moves 71 yards to kick a chip shot field goal and win.

While clearly no game that goes to overtime can be called a strong win, it still felt like they controlled the game on both sides of the ball late in the contest, and a win was inevitable. I think the defense is near the top of the league and the offense does what it needs to in order to win. Geno had a particularly good game.

Yeah, I’m no football expert, but I watched the whole game (I guess I’m a lukewarm Patriots supporter now) and I was surprised that they managed to hang on and even be ahead for a while. They looked like the worse side except for a few minutes of the three hours.

So I’ve been on the road for the last couple of hours and just walked in the door.

I am baffled by the outcomes I see:

Browns defeat Jags
Raiders defeat Ravens
Vikings defeat Niners
Commanders defeat Giants (ok, not much of an upset, but still)
Bucs defeat Lions
Saints annihilate Cowboys

What is going on today?

Jags are bad and the Browns have one of the best defenses in the NFL so that one is not exactly a shocker

The general trend is that teams who don’t play their starters in preseason don’t start the regular season well. I don’t think the Browns over the Jaguars is an upset though.

You can add in the Rams getting waxed by Arizona. This has been like Bizarro world today; maybe the Bears might have a shot at upsetting Houston tonight.
