For someone walking (even jogging) on his own power, that seems unlikely, but you never know.
Seattle certainly doesn’t have much to replace him. People are going to see just how important he was to Seattle’s championship season.
ETA: That looks like a bad injury to AJ Brown. I hate seeing people get hurt and hope he’s okay.
Wow. What an ending.
That last pass attempt from Maye was the most boneheaded decision of the entire season so far.
I bet that’s the Super Bowl most of the nation would have wanted.
ETA: End zone interception at the end of a game should feel familiar to New England fans.
When he stepped back, I thought “wait, isn’t that covered?”
Can’t really say much about the rest of this season for either team from this game but the Seattle D is still pretty good and can take the team far with at least average QB play
As per ESPN:
Thanks, good news. And AJ Brown was putting weight on his foot so he’s probably not looking at anything too serious either.
This article says he left the locker room in a boot.
He had x-rays but no other word yet.
A good game tonight. Very even matchup, and went right down to the wire. I enjoyed every minute.
Looking forward to the game from Melbourne tomorrow.
He has a high ankle sprain and is expected to miss some time.
There should be an MRI later today that should be able to determine how much time he’ll miss. But this seems pretty bad for Maye to lose a weapon right away that was part of an important trade in the off-season. And for Brown, of course, who was excited to be on the team he grew up rooting for.
It was, but in a jump ball situation with a well-thrown corner throw, Mack Hollins should have the advantage. But Maye had a rusher a step away in his face and threw falling backwards off his back foot, so he underthrew and the throw ultimately favored Jobe, not Hollins.
Darnold expected to miss one game, but could be back the following week.
For now, Darnold is expected to be out for Week 2, per NFL Network. While he could miss additional weeks, Darnold has a lot of time to recover for Week 3 since the Seahawks have a longer layoff than usual after playing Wednesday.
Particularly since Romeo Doubs showed nothing but concrete hands and blurry vision last night.
Packers running back Josh Jacobs has a “no contest” plea to two misdemeanor charges today, stemming from a domestic incident in May.
Jacobs is currently on the “commissioner exempt” list, but is likely to receive a six-game suspension, which is the standard suspension in the CBA for a domestic violence case.
This has the distinct aroma of “getting this out of the way as expeditiously as possible”. Starting the suspension ASAP is getting him back into the season just when it starts heating up
That one drop he had was so bad. He was wide open and well past the sticks. Nobody around him. A perfectly thrown ball right into his hands, and he just dropped it. It looked to me like his mind was on where he was going to run to and not on the actual process of catching the ball.
If he had caught that, I feel like New England would have won. Not long after that, Maye threw the first interception and it seemed to fall apart after that. Seattle went on to score 13 unanswered points.
While Maye is going to get some criticism, and at least some of it is deserved, it’s at least partially on his receivers. That first interception was a jump ball that was obviously risky, but not a stupid throw, and it was to a guy whose strength is getting those contested catches. What is a QB supposed to do if he can’t trust his receivers?! Run the ball I guess, and Maye did (with a lot of success I’ll add) but obviously a few scrambles isn’t going to win the game.
At least the offensive line looked day and night better for New England. That is a huge turnaround for them. Despite the loss, that seemed like an overall better team to me. And it’s not just because they were up against Seattle’s backup QB and a defense missing some important pieces.
They did, for three quarters. Then they started getting leaky.
Maye has a real problem staying composed and making good decisions when defenders get up in his grill. For whatever reason, that started being an issue in that last quarter.
One analysis I watched said that toward the end the tackles seemed to be “laying down”. Which was an exaggeration, of course, but I think it was more along the lines of the fact that their protection was flagging later.
Two observations made during the game by commentators… They were saying that the Patriots O-line started looking like they were getting worn out, and they also pointed out how Seattle changed their defensive strategy. In particular, for the earlier part of the game, Devon Witherspoon (All-Pro CB on the Seahawks) was trying to rush Maye without success, and presumably he was doing that because it was so successful in the Super Bowl. But the problem was that Devon was teaming up with Nick Emmanwori (Safety who came in second last year for Defensive Rookie of the Year) in the SB, and as a tandem they were wrecking things. Nick is recovering from ankle surgery he had in the offseason and wasn’t able to play in the opener, and Devon couldn’t pull off the pass rush on his own. Later in the game, Devon stuck with covering receivers and let other people try to rush Maye, and it was a lot more effective.
I think a combination of factors led to Seattle being able to get more pressure late in the game.
So the Thursday night game is on Netflix. Is this just because it’s week 1, or is this going to be a regular thing?
No.
Just like last year, the rest of the Thursday night games will be on…Amazon Prime.
