NFL 2026 Offseason Thread

With the Super Bowl in the books, it’s time for the offseason thread.

Upcoming dates of import:

  • February 23 - March 2: Scouting Combine
  • March 3: Deadline to designate franchise and transition players
  • March 9: Teams can begin to contact unrestricted free agents
  • March 11: The “league year” begins, and teams can sign free agents and execute trades
  • April 23-25: Draft, in Pittsburgh

Bears don’t pick until 25?! What I’m supposed to do until then?

You can watch the Lions pick at #17 and hope they draft a long snapper.

Fantasize about Sid Luckman?

Nah, Bears fans are, for the moment, convinced that they have an actual quarterback…this time, for sure!

Not a Bears fan but I’m rooting for Williams. Or rather, I’m rooting for the Bears to have a good quarterback, I don’t particularly care who. Looked good in the second half against the Packers!

Any Colts fans in here? How are you feeling about your quarterback situation? I’m rooting pretty hard for Daniel Jones to be a good quarterback in Indy, to be the man there. Looks promising, but the two reasons I was happy to move on from him in New York were because I didn’t believe in him and he was always injured. I’m rooting for Jones to prove me wrong like Sam Darnold just did, but the injuries. Gah! So frustrating.

I can’t believe Matt Nagy is the offensive coordinator for the Giants. Jesus Christ, I have to root for him now? I’m trying to be optimistic and just thinking about getting nabers and skattebo back. I was happy with both lines, ie the foundation.

Looks like Seattle is bringing in new talent for OC after all to replace Kubiak.

Fleury has a pretty diverse background and must have impressed the heck out of Mike Macdonald. Plus, being the TE coach for years with George Kittle is pretty impressive. I’m cautiously optimistic.

The tear-down begins in Miami. The Dolphins have cut WRs Tyreek Hill, and informed LB Bradley Chubb that he will be released. They have also released offensive lineman James Daniels (who was hurt in the first game of last season) and WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

The big shoe which is still expected to drop is QB Tua Tagovailoa, though the size of his contract makes the Dolphins’ options limited.

Titans are getting a new logo and new uniform.

Sources confirm new Titans logo plus elements of new uniforms, branding redesign for 2026 NFL season

I like it.

It’s a return to the Oilers colors, and I like it, as well.

Yeah, much closer to the Oilers. And it makes sense to ditch the dark blue, as they didn’t wear the dark blue jerseys even once last season.

Definitely has a retro, Captain American feel to it. I’m not a fan of those shades of blue and red together, honestly.

I’m guessing you weren’t a fan of their uniforms back when they were the Oilers, either?

Nope, not a fan. In theory, I appreciate the fact that the texans are honoring their history with the new uniforms, but I just happen not to like those colors much. No biggie, though, they’re not my team

You can’t stand red white and blue, as your team is the Patriots.

(I tease, I know that it’s those particular shades you don’t like, and I respect that.)

You mean the Titans. Bud Adams absconded with the Oilers to Tennessee and there are still a lot of people in Houston sore about that.

The Texans are the newest NFL franchise and use dark blue uniforms. Things were set up so they could not get the Oilers name for the franchise, like Cleveland did for the Browns when the old Browns became the Ravens

That’s another good point though. The red/white/blue color scheme is pretty common in the NFL. The Giants, Patriots, Texans, Bills, and Titans all use it. The Giants and Bills use almost the same shade of blue, as do the Patriots and Texans. The Titans distinguished themselves a bit by adding a light blue in addition to the dark blue, and also had those grey bits on the shoulders, but ditching the dark blue completely would set them apart even further.

My WAG: the Titans discovered that their throwback/alternate uniforms and related merchandise which used the old Oilers’ color scheme sold really well, and decided to make the switch full-time.

I think it helps that their regular uniforms already incorporate those throwback colors, so it’s just a relatively minor change. Many other teams aren’t like that. Seattle and Tampa Bay, for example, have almost none of the same colors as their throwback uniforms in their normal uniforms. (The Seattle throwbacks seem really popular, heck I have a jersey and some t-shirts with those colors that I purchased in the last couple of years, but I doubt they’re ever going to swap back to them as a permanent change.)

To be fair, around the Houston area, the color scheme is still popular.

UH sported the color scheme as have the Texans. Technically the rights belong to Amy Adams Strunk as owner of the Titans, and she’s sometimes delusional about it. The team, likely not listening to any PR folks, sent a cease and desist to UH a couple years back to stop them from using the color scheme. That didn’t really have the intended effect, UH still used it last season, and Rice (usually dark blue) wore the colors for a game last season as well.
