I wonder if Rodgers went behind the back to the owner like in NYJ
It’s even worse. In addition to “DEFENSIVE…” it’s also “…OF THEYEAR” without a space.
Just when I thought Dart was going to be a great answer in New York:
I have to question any starting QB who is the face of his team putting himself front and center for a controversial political situation, regardless of what it is. I don’t post that to start a political discussion, but rather to point out that this could be a problem for the Giants.
Even Aaron Rodgers’ political controversies came from comments on a podcast. He wasn’t inserting himself into a political event. Plus, he was an established (probably Hall of Fame) QB, not a young guy trying to establish himself.
Ugh, but I mean, he’s a multi-millionaire from Utah who went to Ole Miss. Of course he’s maga.
Even that doesn’t bother me so much. A certain percentage of players are going to be, just statistically speaking. It’s the idea of going up and introducing him at a public event that’s problematic.
And again, not a political criticism (though it deserves that) but a question of his judgement. I wonder if he even thought for a second what this might mean for his franchise or his own career. You’d think he’d have an agent that might caution him against it. Trump is easily the most polarizing modern figure in this nation. You are guaranteed to put off a lot of people.
Packers running back Josh Jacobs was arrested today in suburban Green Bay, charged with several domestic violence charges, including two felony charges.
Four months to the day after firing their GM, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, the Vikings have finally hired a new GM: Nolan Teasley, who was the assistant GM for the Seahawks.
Firing Adofo-Mensah so late in the offseason firing/hiring window meant that the Vikings likely missed out on several other candidates; Rob Brzezinski, who had been serving as interim GM, and who shepherded the team through this year’s draft and free agency, was a finalist for the permanent role, but was ultimately not selected.
Teasely was the only finalist who had no direct connection with the Vikings; he’s been a member of the Seahawks’ front office for the past 13 years.
Feels like hoping to capture last season’s lightning in a bottle.
NFL great Raymond Berry, a star receiver with the Colts in the 1950s and 1960s, passed away last week at the age of 93; the news of his passing was released today by his family, through the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Berry was Johnny Unitas’s go-to receiver, and he was part of two NFL champion teams, while being named to the NFL’s all-decade 1950s team, a first-team All-Pro three times, and going to six Pro Bowls. He was known for his sure hands, and only fumbled once during his career; as a teenager, I read a lot of books about the NFL, and I remember reading that part of his off-season training regimen was having his wife throw passes to him from odd angles, forcing him to perfect the ability to catch errant and off-target passes.
When he retired after the 1967 season, Berry then held the NFL record for career receptions. He later went into coaching, and won the AFC championship in 1985 with the Patriots, though his team was then steamrollered by the Bears in Super Bowl XX.
Russell Wilson is finalizing a deal to join CBS as an analyst. He had an offer on the table from the Jets as a backup.
Being an analyst on CBS is probably somehow more likely to get him another Super Bowl ring than being on the Jets.
Miles Garrett has been traded to the Rams.
Garrett was traded for two-time Pro-Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick and other draft compensation that still is being negotiated, sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Good for Garrett, who gets to play for a serious contender while he’s still at his peak. But, sad for Browns fans, who lose their team’s only real star.
Cleveland was going to have to figure out the cap situation somehow not just for this season but for the next 3 or 4, and a Garrett trade was an obvious thing to do.
He almost certainly knew it too when he got the no-trade clause, so he could at least choose where he went when he was inevitably approached about a trade.
Details probably aren’t completely final yet. The post-June 1 timing doesn’t kick in for a few hours, so there are probably some minor last minute stuff the teams have to settle.
Rams draft Ty Simpson and decide it’s better to go back to not having 1st round picks.
They’re clearly in ‘win now’ mode while Stafford is still viable. Yes, at the cost of the next few years but there are worse ways to be than deciding on a reasonable strategy and fully committing to it, despite the bill that will inevitably come due.
Truth
And, for what it’s worth, next year’s Super Bowl is being held at SoFi (the Rams’ home stadium).
I remember several years ago when Indy hosted the Super Bowl, there was talk that Peyton Manning would have been the first quarterback to play the game in their home stadium (he wasn’t…he had his neck surgery, and the Colts sucked that season). I don’t know if Stafford now gets that honor. I haven’t looked it up, but I can’t think of anyone in the intervening years off the top of my head.
Funny enough, Stafford already has, just 4 years ago. But he wasn’t the first. Tom Brady did playing for Tampa Bay in 2021.
