One little tidbit I’m interested in following. Apparently, in addition to allowing horrid treatment of women in the workplace and fighting against changing a racist name, the Washington Commanders were engaged in potential financial crimes.
Which, given the NFL, wouldn’t be a huge deal, BUT, part of the allegations is that the Washington Snyders under-reported revenue to the NFL itself, thereby costing other owners (who are likely doing the same thing) their own money.
Given this revelation and the animosity that Snyder is building from his NFL owners, it could be an interesting time for the Commanders.
This should bring pure unadulterated joy to Washingtonians. Probably the only thing more damning than a on-video racist tirade is stealing money from the rest of the league.
The Packers, whose cupboard at wide receiver is pretty bare, signed veteran WR Sammy Watkins to a one-year contract yesterday. Watkins is no longer a spring chicken (he’ll turn 29 before the season starts), he’s had injury issues throughout his career, and he fell down the Ravens’ depth chart by the end of last season, so I’d be surprised if he winds up being the primary answer for the Packers this year.
With two first-round and two second-round picks in this year’s draft (thanks to the Davante Adams trade), it’s widely believed that the Pack will invest at least one of those picks in another wide receiver.
Was drafted really high and never really lived up to it. He’s fine, if he can stay on the field, but he never became a star. Of course he was the first WR taken in a draft that also had Mike Evans, Odell Beckham, Brandin Cooks, Davante Adams, Allen Robinson, and Jarvis Landry.
Looking at it, that was a great 1st round (2014). 13 out of the first 17 picks made at least one Pro Bowl. (Watkins was one of the 4 that did not)
The Bills got good at a very good time. The idiots of the NY legislature voted to give billionaire Ted Pegula $850 million dollars to help him build his new stadium. So they’re giving a handout and paying 60% of the cost to a fucking billionaire whose value of investment has gone up $900 million since theybought the Bills.
Not only do I expect the Packers to pick the wide receiver of Aaron Rodgers’ choice, I’d half expect that he’ll be the one who personally announces the pick.
I can imagine that the entire country would hear his head explode if they don’t pick up a replacement for Devante Adams right away. I foresee them selecting a couple of targets in the first two rounds.
The Raiders announced the sudden departure (and perhaps dismissal) of team president Dan Ventrelle today, with no further comment.
Ventrelle had only served as team president for a few months, after taking over the role on an interim basis last July, when Marc Badain resigned.
The ESPN article linked to below describes “palace intrigue” going on inside the organization, with numerous long-time front office staff departing in the past year, not to mention the resignation of Jon Gruden in mid-season last year after inflammatory emails came to light.
He claims that Mark Davis fired him, in retaliation for bringing up concerns about a hostile work environment. When his concerns were ignored, he took them to the NFL.
Yeesh, the Raiders can’t get out of their own way. They manage to make the playoffs last year (in spite of the Gruden debacle and the Henry Ruggs situation), they pick up Davante Adams this offseason, and now this.
As sad as I was that Adams wanted to leave the Packers, I understood the desire to play for the team he grew up cheering for. OTOH, I also feel sorry for him, that he’s now with such a horribly managed team.
