I’m hanging onto my Wilson jersey, I don’t see why you’d not be able to wear a Mack jersey. If you value what he did for the Bears, and want to honor that, go ahead and wear it. I don’t see it much different than wearing the jersey of a retired legend from a team. (Just my personal opinion, of course.)
As much as I enjoyed Mack’s time here, it’s only a few seasons. And they didn’t win anything while he was here. Of course I could keep wearing it, there’s no rule against it, but I find it a little gauche. A Payton or Butkus jersey, sure thing, but not a short-time star. I prefer to wear a jersey for a guy who’s actually on the field.
Maybe it’s an excuse to get a new one. I like to find opportunity in a bad situation.
The first time I ever bought a flat screen television, my oldest daughter (who was a toddler at the time) had broken our old TV. (She would frequently push it backwards in the entertainment center, and we’d have to pull it back forward, and that back-and-forth broke the cable connection in the back over time.) Rather than be mad about it, it was the excuse I needed to get the TV I wanted. I still have that flat screen TV more than a decade later (though it’s a secondary TV in a guest room).
Oh, I will buy another jersey. But there isn’t a single player on this roster right now I’d represent. I don’t buy QB jerseys as a rule. And my favorite player is a FA who’s probably only got a couple good seasons left in him. Gonna be a rough season I think.
The Titans released guard Rodger Saffold, who made the Pro Bowl last year despite only making 81% of the team’s snaps due to injury.
How are the Colts looking at guard?
I dislike the Bears, I’m happy to see them get fleeced once again, and I’m thrilled for a couple more years of mediocrity from them. But even with all that, if I were a Bears fan, I’d have absolutely no problem representing for Roquan Smith.
Yeah, he’s definitely the best player on the roster once Mack’s gone. But there’s just something missing with him when it comes to silly fandom stuff. The on-field results are unquestioned, but you really don’t see many Smith jerseys out there. Probably the same reason that he keeps getting robbed when it comes to Pro Bowls.
It’s a 2022 2nd round pick. The reporter that original tweeted it out did a really bad job making that clear.
That improves the deal somewhat, but still a weak haul for one of the best pass rushers in the league. Von Miller commanded more compensation from the Rams. Frank Clark made a much better return two years ago. The Bears will still carry $24M in dead cap this year as a result of the deal.
A Harris County (TX) grand jury has declined to indict Deshaun Watson, so he will not face criminal charges. Watson commenting, via ESPN:
“I thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ for letting the truth be heard.”
Yes, it must have been Satan who got all those women to come forward.
Spring cleaning continuing at Bears HQ: they are releasing RB/PR Tarik Cohen (who missed most of 2020, and all of 2021, with an ACL injury), and DT Eddie Goldman.
New leadership really wants a reboot. I will say that the Cohen contract was pretty idiotic when they gave it to him. It’s made infinitely worse when you consider he barley played a game after signing it.
The Goldman one is a fair bit more surprising. He’s a really talented guy at a critical position and he’s not badly overpaid. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if this is less Poles doing than the team’s. Goldman sat out for COVID and people questioned his commitment at times. While the COVID stuff doesn’t bother me, he did have stretches there where he acted like a guy happy to cash checks. Still, when he came back he performed well.
I’d have much rather seen Eddie Jackson shown the door than Goldman.
PFF has Goldman ranked as their 107th interior defender out of 110.
Could be he just sucks.
Those cherries must be delicious.
SI is saying Goldman isn’t the player he once was, and he no longer fits with the Bears defense even if he was still his old self.

The switch to a 4-3 defense makes Goldman sort of like a factor worker replaced by automation. There is no role for him in the Bears defense. He is used as a two-gap plug who occupies blockers. The new defense has players attacking upfield in gaps, a single gap of responsibility each.
Goldman enjoyed success from 2017-2019 in Vic Fangio’s and Chuck Pagano’s defenses, but then opted out in 2020 due to the pandemic.
When he returned in 2021, he struggled.
Goldman had career lows of half a sack, one tackle for loss and one quarterback hit in 2021. He made 22 tackles, four off of his career low from 2016, a season when he played only six games.
Cohen was a very good player, but in a very specific role – he caught more passes coming out of the backfield than he actually ran the ball, and while that’s a valuable role (as is being a reliable punt returner), the fact that the Bears gave him a contract for almost $6 million a year probably was overpaying, even without the injury. (And, yeah, he went on IR with the knee injury nine days after signing that contract, which is tragic timing.)
The fact that he still couldn’t pass a physical a year and a half after the injury does suggest that it was a particularly bad one, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his career is over, which is a sad thing.
Amari Cooper and his over-inflated contract (way to go Jerry Jones!) will apparently be moving on to the Cleveland Browns. Although it can’t be official until Wednesday, the Browns apparently have agreed to give up a whopping 5th round pick (and moving down 9 spots in the 6th round) for Cooper. No deets on how much of the salary each team will eat.
Seeing as how Cooper was a very likely to be released anyway, good on Jerry Jones for getting something … anything for him. Although seeing as how it was Jones’ giving Cooper that contract that made Cooper likely to be released in the first place, we’ll still get a good laugh at Jerry.
Unless they get some serious relief from Coopers’ contract, the Browns will need to clean up some cap space. I’m guessing this means the Jarvis Landry era in Cleveland is over.
Tom Brady has tweeted that he’s decided to come back out of retirement, and return to the Bucs for 2022.
Just call him Brady Favre.
I guess, but when a 44 year old QB says he’s retiring, it strikes a bit differently. Won’t be long before he doesn’t have a choice in the matter anymore.
