NFL Offseason 2022

Ugh, another one- or two-year Band-Aid. Isn’t he, like, 37? That’s ancient for a quarterback.

I think Baker was clearly the best of the QBs available so I’m surprised no one has secured him yet.

I’d say Baker has the most upside of available QBs, but has yet to really prove himself. I was hoping he’d go to Indy. But supposedly San Francisco is also interested. That would be a nice landing spot, too.

Atlanta didn’t even have a Plan B. Reports are they’re going for Marcus Mariota.

Lots of stopgap QBs next season.

Well, this is a very QB-poor draft. Everyone is looking towards next year’s draft, which should have more QB talent.

Now we’re hearing the Seahawks are good with Lock and the Panthers are interested in running it back with Cam. In other words, I have no idea where Baker Mayfield ends up.

The 2023 draft class has a couple of potentially good QBs in it. A team lacking a QB this year could be patient and accept a bad year without necessarily tanking deliberately.

Apparently, before trading for Carson Wentz, Washington looked into trying to bring Andrew Luck out of retirement. I guess they just really wanted someone who had played QB for Indianapolis.

And I think the rest of the NFC south is realizing that they have one more year to deal with Tom Brady so it’s not worth it to push for this year.

Someone on my Facebook feed noted that with the Ryan trade, Tom Brady has the longest current tenure with his team among the NFC South QBs.

Detroit would be an interesting matchup. Jared Goff is not the answer to anything. Any one player can’t possibly unfuck that franchise, but when you’re as perennially as bad as the Lions, I think a “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” approach is valid. Can’t be any worse than whatever it is they have been doing.

I can’t see the Lions going with a retread. Feels like they are going the draft and develop route as part of the ongoing ground-up rebuild.

Goff’s got at least one more year in Detroit. His cap hit is way too big to ignore and not every team can pull an Atlanta against their cap.

That timing may work out for them. Next year’s draft looms if Goff doesn’t show any improvement.

If Mayfield goes to Detroit, we’ll know he was a major fucking asshole in a previous life. Drafted by the Browns, traded to the Lions? Yeesh!

The Chiefs are trading Tyreek Hill?

That’s going to cause some teeth gnashing around these parts if true.

I think that’s the quickest I’ve seen a star player go from “they might get traded” to “they’re gone”.

Why did KC trade away Hill? I know they picked up JuJu, but he’s not on that level. They must feel really good about this deep WR draft class.

Money

It feels like a move the Patriots would make. Trade away a good player for a bunch of picks, and avoid having to pay out a big contract. The Chiefs are definitely worse right now, but maybe better long term. Basically just keep Mahomes and reload everywhere else when possible.
