I hope you’re right. The dream scenario is that Peppers takes the Reggie White/Simeon Rice path after this trade. I do think he’ll like playing in Chicago and the staff will keep him happy, the media will either love him or eat him alive though. If he takes plays off here they will destroy him, hopefully this motivation is good for him.
The bigger question is how Alex Brown and/or Mark Anderson adjust to playing on the left side. Maybe the Bears will use Henry Melton or Jarron Gilbert on the left end, but previous reports had them moved inside to tackle. Assuming Ogunleye is gone someone is going to need to make a major adjustment.
Still, a front 4 of Peppers, Harris, Harrison and Brown looks pretty awesome on paper.
I was hoping the dolphins would end up with Anquan, and if that was the price damn that’s cheap. I wonder where the Dolphins are going to find a competent receiver now(I don’t see a Parcell’s team wanting Marshall very much).
On the other side of things with the Ravens getting him, It’s hard to imagine they are very interested in Owens anymore. Looking more likely that the ass’s career is finally over.
Incidentally, if the Seahawks sign Brandon Marshall with the first round tender the Broncos applied to him the Seahawks would end up giving up their #6 overall pick to the Broncos giving them 2 picks in the top 11. The Seahawks interestingly picked up the Broncos 1st rounder in a draft day trade last year so they currently own two 1sts (#6 and #14).
I wonder if there’s any part of the Broncos that would prefer to avoid that 6th overall pick’s price tag and opt for the 14th pick from Seattle instead.
Packers resigned Chad Clifton for 3 years, $20 million, 7.5 guaranteed. High price, but it’s LT and they don’t come cheap. They still need to draft a replacement (where is Jamon Meredith now?), maybe even with their first round pick, but I can breathe a little easier. And with VandenBosch, Peppers, and Allen, we need someone stop them from eating Rodgers’ head.
It is fun to see the Bears making so many moves. It gets their fans’ little hopes up for a bit.
Vanden Bosch to the Lions is interesting too. He is a bit past his prime, but still much better than the hamburger they used on the line last year. And with Suh or McCoy probably coming in, it should make a bug difference on the D.
Corey Williams too although I don’t know much about him. When I somehow I ever find myself watching the Browns, I realize I am wasting my life and go do something. But again could he possibly be worse?
The numbers for the Peppers contract are in and it appears I was deceived into a rosier picture than it actually is. Peppers appears to have gotten Haynesworth money and maybe more. The contract is a 6-year deal for a maximum of $91.5M. That averages out to closer to $15.75M/year than the initially reported $12M/year. It’s worth noting that there’s quite a few incentives in that deal and there’s $20M due in this uncapped season reducing the cap burden down the road. It’s a record $42M guaranteed apparently, and there’s a potential to make $40.5M over the first three seasons which averages out to $13.5M/year. Presumably the contract is backloaded a bit so it’s unlikely that he’ll realize that $15M+ a year cap hit. I wonder what the incentives are and how likely he is to hit them. I also wonder what the circumstances will be if there’s a lockout in 2011.
Antrel Rolle got big money from the Giants to play Safety making him the top paid Safety in the league. It’s a good fit and the Giants will need the help, but I’m not sure he’s worth almost $8M/year.
Wow, what a tough day for the Arizona Cardinals. Cards lose Dansby, Boldin, and Rolle all in one day.
With Warner’s retirement, this will be a rebuilding year for the Cards. There’s still plenty of talent on the Cardinals, however and they still have a chance to win the NFC West. At least we don’t have to listen to any more of Boldin’s contract whining.
I’m surprised at how fast Boldin went to the Ravens. Did Derrick Mason retire?
Anyway, the Ravens leading receiver last year was Ray Rice, so maybe now Flacco will have to live up to his hype and actually throw the ball down the field now that he has a legit target in Boldin.
I still say that the Bengals will end up with Marshall or TO, and then draft a WR. We have some breathing room now that we cut Coles.
