NFL Playoff Prediction Contest

I don’t know. The seeding issue is sort of important. The seeds can change based on the other game too - that is, if you have seeds 3 and 4 advancing, then you could correctly pick 1v4, and 2v3. But if seeds 4 and 6 actually advanced, you’d have 1v6 and 2v4. So even though you correctly picked that 4 would advance, because you got the other pick wrong, the seeding is screwed up for both. That’s part of the contest, I think - getting rewarded more for getting seeding right, and I took some care to think about the various scenarios and how they could play out like that before I made my picks.

On the other hand, you actually got the right picks, so this is just an oversight of thinking about how your correct picks would play out in terms of seeding. That being the case, I’m inclined to let you get a pass on this one, but I’d like to hear if anyone else has an opinion on it.

His AFC seeding is wrong because of a wrong pick. It makes sense not to change that. Mine is the same way. But his NFC was wrong from the get-go. There was no way Green Bay would play Chicago next week, regardless of who won.

I’m fine with just changing the NFC and keeping the AFC as it is. I don’t think it’s fAir to make a new pick this late.

Friendly reminder to get your divisional picks in before Sat Afternoon.

Divisional Round Predictions:

Baltimore Ravens 17 Pittsburgh Steelers 21
Green Bay Packers 23 Atlanta Falcons 24
Seattle Seahawks 13 Chicago Bears 27
New York Jets 17 New England Patriots 27

Ravens 17 Steelers 13
Packers 23 Falcons 27
Seahawks 13 Bears 24
Jets 13 Patriots 27

Baltimore 17 at Pittsbugh 21

Steelers 17, Ravens 13
Packers 34, Falcons 24
Bears 28, Seahawks 13
Patriots 34, Jets 10

I got 15 bonus points from Part 1 during the Wild Card round.

Part 2 scoring:

Predicted: Green Bay 30 at Philadelphia 23
Actual: Green Bay 21 at Philadelphia 16
Score: 30-21=9 + 23-16=7, 9+7-10= 6

Predicted: New Orleans 33 at Seattle 13
Actual: New Orleans 36 at Seattle 41
Score: 36-33=3 + 41-13=28, 3+28= 31

Predicted: New York Jets 20 at Indianapolis 17
Actual: New York Jets 17 at Indianapolis 16
Score: 20-17=3 + 17-16=1, 3+1-10= -6

Predicted: Baltimore 28 at Kansas City 9
Actual: Baltimore 30 at Kansas City 7
Score: 30-28=2 + 9-7=2, 2+2-10= -6

So, my total score for Part 2 Wild Card round is 25, and 10 overall, including Part 1 bonus points. Right?

Ravens 9 Steelers 13
Packers 16 Falcons 10
Seahawks 6 Bears 24
Jets 10 Patriots 27

Baltimore Ravens 13 Pittsburgh Steelers 17
Green Bay Packers 23 Atlanta Falcons 20
Seattle Seahawks 10 Chicago Bears 18
New York Jets 24 New England Patriots 31

Baltimore Ravens 14 Pittsburgh Steelers 17
Green Bay Packers 24 Atlanta Falcons 20
Seattle Seahawks 17 Chicago Bears 27
New York Jets 17 New England Patriots 30

I don’t calculate the bonus scores from the first bracket until the end of the competition, it’s much easier to do it all at once. So when I list weekly scores (which I forgot to do this week) it only concerns the weekly part of the competition. At the end, I’ll subtract the bonus points earned in the first bracket from that total.
Baltimore 17 Pittsburgh 24
Green Bay 33 Atlanta 27
Bears 20 Seahawks 13
Jets 20 Patriots 35

Baltimore 20 Pittsburgh 24
Green Bay 27 Atlanta 24
Chicago 27 Seattle 20
New York 17 New England 31

Patriots 33 - Jets 17
Bears 30 - Seahawks 10
Steelers 20 - Ravens 13
Packers 27 - Falcons 24

Interesting to see that so many people are picking the #6 seed against the #1 seed, who have a pretty great home record…

OK, my Steelers gave me a scare at half time - but they pulled it out. Much bigger scoring than I predicted.

So far I’m 3 and 0, quite a change from last week. Of course, my scores are off.

Wow. Of all my picks the one I was most sure of is the one that was wrong.

Yes, interesting…

Ok, here are the wildcard weekend scores. I’ll do the divisional scores later.

The format is sea/no + gb/phi + nyj/ind + bal/kc = total
Remember that there’s a 10 point bonus for picking the winning team, which also means that some of those numbers can be negative if they’re close enough.

Everyone please double check your own score. I just did it quickly by hand so I may have made a mistake. If everyone checks their own scores it’ll be easy and ensure accuracy. The results were:

sea 41
no 36

gb 21
phi 16

nyj 17
ind 16

bal 30
kc 7
