NFL Replacement Refs

My Google-fu and DopeSearch-fu are failing me.

A friend told me yesterday that these refs weren’t even college level refs because the colleges put pressure on them that they would lose their college gig if they went to the NFL.

So, where did they come from? What is their experience? Please tell me that they have referred more than pee-wee league…

In one of the football threads around here, this gets brought up. Probably NFL Week 2. Last week was terrible officiating and I do believe it’s because it’s true, not even college level referees. No cite, but check that thread.

Most of them are college refs, but from DII and DIII. The DI refs are sticking with their jobs because they’re tied by contract.

Taking these NFL temp jobs is burning any bridges the replacement refs may have. The DI officials still have upward mobility and want to keep their DI jobs with a legit shot at moving up. The current replacements have generally stalled out and are close to retiring. They aren’t going to get better offers than this, so why not go out with a blaze of glory?
