NFL Week 1

Yes!!

Dude. You make this too fucking easy.

Notice how in Aikman’s world(former QB), all interceptions are the fault of the receivers?

Oh the silly, silly NFC North. Everyone has more championships than the Vikes.

Though Cutler’s got to figure out what uniform his teammates win.

Dan Marino, Steve Young, etc. would say the same thing in the booth, too.

Wha?

Um…
hangs head in shame

Woot!!

Not pretty, but a W is a W, especially against a division team.

Give Cutler credit for chasing down Harris. A lot of Qb’s would’ve lowered their head and walked off.

Rodgers to Jennings is the newest elite pass catch combo in the NFL. There will be more of those plays (though hopefully they won’t need them to win with a minute left.)

Pack better get their RT sorted out, or they’ll need to be 10 deep in QBs.

Aikman(NBC’s colour commentator for tonight) is a former QB. On three of Cutler’s four interceptions, he said that the receiver was at fault.

How did I fail to hear that Holmgren is no longer coaching the Seahawks?

That was Colinsworth (a former WR).

and *that *pick is GAME! WOO!

I win both bets!

Isn’t Chris Collinsworth, a former WR, the commentator?

:smack:

I really like the fact that in the post game interview, Aaron Rodgers admits he was off for most of the game and gave the Bears defense credit for playing well. And Jennings is nothing but pure class. While no one will replace Sweetness as my favorite player ever, Jennings is really impressing me.

I didn’t say all those gambles don’t occasionally pay off. Sun shining on a dogs ass and all…

Game played out pretty much like I expected. The difference was the Bears poor secondary and the lack of reliable WRs. Cutler could have been better and the Bears pass rush was infinitely better than I expected it to be which kept the scoring low, but in the end it was the shit DBs that cost us the game. The Bears pass blocking was much improved in a very tough environment but the run blocking was predictably bad. The 3-4 is going to be a miserable matchup for the Bears all season long, it really takes away Olsen and Forte. Without a more mobile O-Line and WRs who can work the underneath routes we’re going to get owned by aggressive 3-4s.

So the secondary that scored what was almost the game-winning safety, and shut down a near-elite WR for most of the game before getting beat in single coverage on a ballsy play call, is “poor”. The secondary that came up with three INTs, one of them for the win, and might have won the game six minutes earlier but for a phantom penalty, is “shit.” Isn’t this just a “to-MAY-to, to-MAH-to” thing?

And yeah, the Bears WRs suck. That’s what everyone was saying in the NFC North thread.

The Packers secondary didn’t create those INT’s, Jay Cutler did. He made a mediocre pass defense look better than it really was.

Rodgers made a play when he had to, Cutler didn’t, and Jennings is a top ten receiver in the NFL, but Green Bay isn’t going to keep getting those gift turnovers every game.

Cutler looked pretty wild out there for stretches but the receivers looked more than a little lost. They seemed to be quitting on some routes and spinning in circles. It seemed like no one, QB nor WR, had a clue what the proper thing to do on a broken play/scramble is. Tough to say without being inside the huddle and in the film room, but I think there was plenty blame to go around on that one.

Of those INTs the only one that I really was an outstanding play was the one by a rotund nose tackle.

Ogunleye pretty much was the entire Bears defense. If not for him owning Barbre all game long Rodgers and Jennings would probably have had several other opportunities to make Vasher look terrible.

Yeah, that was pretty weird. The vikings defender shoved Braylon out of bounds, incurring a pass interference penalty. Braylon comes back in bounds and then makes an awesome catch of the ball that was already in the air. He was clearly in bounds with one foot on the field, caught the ball, and then put the other foot down - but because his second foot wasn’t down before he touched the ball, even though his being out of bounds was the result of a defensive penalty, he was still ruled ineligible to catch the ball. That drive ended up fizzling and it’s hard to say it would’ve made a difference but going into halftime up 17-10 may have made a momentum difference.

The first game under the Mangini regime was interesting. I liked the defensive playcalling - lots of shifting and aggression. Peterson was held below 2 yards a carry in the first half with 25 yards total.

The offensive playcalling was strange and Quinn sucked, and eventually after having to go out to consecutive drives with about a minute of rest, they wore down and Peterson started tearing them up. The offensive playcalling in the first half featured a lot of shotgun - and I liked the idea - forego the “need the establish the run” nonsense and just attack the weakness of your opponents… but then what we did from the shotgun was run 5 or 6 draw plays up the gut. I don’t remember Minnesota’s tendencies that well, but their DT from what I understand comes from power, not quickness. They’re not going to be the sort of guys where the DTs push the guard’s outside shoulder consistently on a pass rush or run some sort of stunt. Running a draw up the gut is just running into their strengths. So I liked that there was an unorthodox gameplan, but the actual choices were bizarre.

Quinn looked shitty. I’m wondering if the coaches (both current and previous) have ruined him. The earlier in his career you look at him, the better he looks. He was willing to make intermediate and deep throws before, and now he has become Captain Checkdown. If we were going to play this game, we shouldn’t have traded away Winslow - or at least we should’ve replaced him with someone more capable than Robert Royal. If we’re going to try to force 100 balls to Royal this year it’s going to be ugly.

Oh well, at least we get a cupcake team up next - the Broncos. I’m curious to see what the plan will be.

Edit: Oh, and how did Lewis pull a 5 yard YPC day out of his ass against that run defense?
