NFL Week 13

That 3rd and goal play after the time out at the end of the Denver game would have been perfect to put Tebow in the shotgun, then as the Minn defense is going WTF, dropkick for the winning field goal.

Call it what you want. Doesn’t make it less true. It doesn’t always happen, but good leaders can inspire people to play harder if for no other reason than to not get shown up.

I would expect you to know what I’m talking about then. If you don’t, maybe you never played with someone who inspired you to do better or give more. Or maybe you don’t want to admit it. It isn’t worth arguing in any case because the two sides aren’t playing the same game with the same rules. You can’t argue what Tebow brings to the table because it’s intangible more than anything (and no less real). You can’t argue against Tebow because his stats don’t tell the story and won’t convince anyone anyway. Hopeless.

I just know what irrational confidence can mean to an athlete and a team. And what it can do to a person who won’t let himself be the one who lets down the leader.

(Good time to mention here that I think Tebow is a shitty quarterback.)

I respect your attempt to be clever and funny, but please don’t edit my posts when quoting them. I won’t report it this time.

Well that was a disappointing Bears game. Lots of missed opportunities and screwed up plays. Good news is that Atlanta lost as well. So just need the Lions and Giants to lose as well, and everything will be the same as before.

Hurr yet again. I did nothing to your post except hit the quote button and mock it.

I haven’t done that and would not do that. What I am saying is that Tebow playing is incidental. What actually matters is that their defense is healthy. Hell, today Von Miller was out and they gave up 30 to the Vikings. I guess Tebow wasn’t inspiring them today?

You must have done something. All the capital letters got changed to lower-case.

You’re conflating the ability of a leader to make their teammates play better with proof that that’s what’s going on here. Occam’s razor would suggest healthy defensive players have a bigger impact on the defense than the QB.

They did? Hmmm…

Weird, they did. I didn’t do anything, honest. That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.

In any event, that didn’t change the content or the meaning of the quote, nor my response to it.

Fuck. Patrick Willis is down. Hamstring, looks like.

Well, I guess I believe you and apologize.

Perhaps, but that’s not the point, of course.

I love that the Steelers-Bengals game ended with Charlie Batch vs. Bruce Gradkowski, two Pittsburgh-native backup quarterbacks that I have a connection to. Odd.

Also, apparently Tebow’s prayers are working. God made the division-leading Raiders lose to 3-8 Miami. Muahahaha!

Pat Shurmur’s West Coast Offense sucks fucking balls.

Fucking Kevin Kolb. When is this guy going to learn to throw the fucking ball away instead of taking the sack? The Cards line isn’t very good - but you’d think he’d have learned this by now, the fucking moron.

The 49ers offense really is looking pathetic. Alex Smith has missed a lot of long throws, Vernon Davis dropped a TD, and Gore is bottled up inside. They need to get Kendall Hunter out on the edge.

Get in line.

The record he broke was surprising to me. I would have thought the number of rushing TDs in a single season would be much higher.

Finally! Smith hit Crabtree in stride, deep for the longest TD on the season. (This was following an INT from Dashon Goldson.)

I’ve said, basically,

  1. (repeatedly) I think his chances of long-term NFL success are slim.
  2. While his biggest fans are irrationally exhuberant, the plain fact is that thus far he’s given them all they wanted.
  3. As a matter of strategy, the attempt to run the shotgun veer in the NFL is extremely interesting, and I hope he keeps his job long enough for the Broncos to really try it for a whole season.
  4. The anger and resentment so many have at his success is sad, even if predictable.

IIRC, that’s all I’ve said.

So yeah, I guess someone who sees “I love him” or “I hate him” as the only possible options might have a problem deciding which one.

Well, don;t forget, that’s rushing TDs for a quarterback.

Second week in a row where I have to root for the Packers.

I feel dirty.
