Who?
Orton hears a “Who?”.
To answer an earlier question: Gruden is on mute. He’s the worst sports announcer ever. Please, someone hire the guy to coach something, so I can watch Monday Night Football with sound again.
Wow, I didn’t realize that Gruden was that bad. I respect the guy for his coaching and am even impressed that he played as Rich Gannon when the bucs were preparing for Super Bowl XXXVII, but boy howdy is he bad on the mic. His comments to his partner Mike Tirico acknowledging Tirico’s accomplishments on MNF were train wreckingly bad.
He wasn’t a very good coach either. Well, he was, but he was a terrible personnel evaluator, which kind of ruined things.
That’s a good portion of his problem on TV, too. He raves about most of the players on the field and over a good number of the college QB prospects come draft time, whether or not they deserve it.
At least when Ron Jaworski was on, you could occasionally get a nugget of reasonable commentary. Mute is now de rigeur at the Antibob household for MNF.
I looked it up - Phil Dawson’s field goal percentage is the 11th all time. Only 2 of the guys ahead of him have spent their careers as primarily outdoor cold weather kickers.
Take a look at about 2:00 into this video. There was obviously no footing, but besides that, the wind was so strong that he deliberately had to aim about 30 degrees left of the left crossbar just so that the ball would do a craze curveball into the goalposts, and it was so dead on he hit the supporting bar behind the goal posts.
Someone could compile a video that was a long sequence of pretty remarkable bad weather kicks if they had access to all the original footage, which of course I don’t unfortunately. He’s just barely off the all-time top 10 list in accuracy, kicking in easily the top 5 hardest kicking conditions in the NFL.
You’re right that the reason no one thinks he’s anything special is because he’s never had the chance to kick those dramatic last minute in the superbowl type kicks, but skill-wise he’s as good as anyone in bad weather and never gets any credit for it.
For the Gruden non-fans (or non-fans of other commentators), all NFL games are now broadcast with Spanish commentary with the SAP button. I’ve used it a bit depending on the game and the announcers. It’s a godsend when you don’t feel like being yelled at while watching a football game. Unless they’re yelling at me in Spanish, in which case I don’t care or know.
What’s interesting about that game last night is it could have been exactly the opposite, with Cutler throwing the picks and the Cowboys dominating and no one would have been surprised. Ok, maybe interesting isn’t the right word.
Why not go with best kicker primarily outdoors cold weather in Ohio. Oh wait, he’d still be second to Shayne Graham. How about best kicker primarily outdoors cold weather who played for the Browns. Oh, wait, that’d be Matt Stover.
I hereby give Phil Dawson credit for being one of the best primarily outdoor, cold weather kickers of all time. If I had to have a guy come in and kick the game winning field goal where the temperature is less than 30 and there is some snow, Phil Dawson would be at least the third name I called.
I enjoyed the “I’m not talking to you” show Cutler put on to Tice on the sidelines. Pouty little bitch. Still, he clearly outperformed Tony Romo and after that game, is now the 25th highest rated QB in the NFL.
By the by, Senor Beef, I’m just busting your chops. Phil Dawson is a very, very good kicker, especially in bad weather.
Hey! We don’t use that term anymore!
Last I checked we have a better record than the Packers!
What? You have more than 13 NFL Championships? (Yes, I went there!)
I would gladly do so if given the opportunity, and so I’m guessing so would Larry Borgia.
C’mon, only Steelers fans are supposed to resort to that tactic!
Most overrated over covered QB in the league vs. the biggest butt hurt bitch in the NFL. Hard to cheer for either one of them
Rodgers and Brees?
Except those guys are actually good and have playoff wins and Superbowl rings.
Romo and Cutler, I’d assume.
Which is which?
