lol I just saw Daniel Jones halftime stats: 5 of 9 for 17 yards!
When I say “doesn’t look like a real quarterback” I mean how he looks jittery, uncomfortable, and confused in the pocket. It’s as if he were watching the rush instead of his receivers and just immediately pulling it down and running, but I don’t think he is. I think he’s trying to read the play, but is wholly unable to and so then pulls it down and runs. At least that’s what it looks like to me. The opposite of poise. Geno Smith, on the other hand, looks poised. I think I’m rooting for him in general.
EDIT: Also his throwing mechanics are terrible. He often displays a weird arm movement on passes that go straight into the dirt. Not always, but he’s good for a few of those a game.
He just got off a really good throw to pick up a 3rd and 12 a moment ago, so he’s clearly capable. And then one big throw right after. Maybe he’s figuring it out.
Yeah those two throws looked good, both to Slayton. So far this season he kicks it into gear and starts looking competent usually sometime in the second half. The rest of that drive was less than inspiring, but maybe.
Bad luck on that drop right there by Lockett. Gotta catch those.
ETA: Nice catch by Slayton. Stole it out of the defender’s hands.
I like the idea of Slayton becoming good, and Jones looks like he’s forming a rapport with him. Slayton had sort of a Victor Cruz vibe his rookie year when he had a several touchdowns in the preseason, but never really clicked when the games counted.
EDIT 2: Giants hanging around, but what the hell was that trick play gone wrong? Yikes.
We’re in the fourth quarter now and Daniel Jones does not yet have 100 yards passing. Oofa.
If Seattle can get at least a field goal this drive, I’ll feel real goodly that we’ve got this one won. And the next three games are against the Cardinals, Buccaneers and Raiders. 8-3 anyone?
Yeah that second punt return fumble I think sealed it. I find myself nostalgic for the Tom Coughlin era where if you fumbled the ball on a return you didn’t get back into the game.
What should scare the NFC West is that the Seahawks seem to be getting better every week as their young players get more game time. But the 49ers won the first game so they’re halfway to having the tie break.
Colts lost at the last minute to the Commanders. Damn. Sam Ehlinger did okay, from what I’m told, though he FUMBLED MY FOOTBALL and I will BREAK MY FOOT OFF IN HIS JOHN BROWN HIND PARTS FOR THAT, AND THEN HE WILL WALK A MILE.
The Lions are a very versatile team this year-- they can score anywhere from 0-45 points and still lose. They looked like they were in danger of winning for most of the game yesterday, but managed to pull off a loss in the final minutes.
