NHL - Bring back Wales and Campbell!

Hockey fans… .who out there longs for the return of the Wales and Campbell Conference? The Norris Division, Patrick, Smyth, Adams!

When the names had meanings and not just geographic references… Northeast Division? Western conference? Where is the personality?

Who’s with me???

I’m with you Sparticus!! I continue to refer to every division by their old names. When people correct me, I just look at them and repeat myself.

“I said, ‘Woo Hoo.’

However, you’ll still get this Blues fan to start swinging if you say “Ignore-us Division”

Leafs fan here… Ignore-us indeed

OG SMASH!!!

I’m with you, but now there are two extra divisions which we would have to name.
I nominate the Howe division as one and the Ballard division as the other.
Oh and while we’re at it, bring back the CANADA CUP!!

BALLARD??? BALLARD??? sorry… NO NO NO NO NO

Howe I like, maybe even Gretzky if it wasn’t too soon…

Esposito, Bowman, Richard would work too
and Yes… Canada Cup !!!

Finally a cause we can truly rally behind. It’d be even better if we could get Canada to take two or three teams back.

Dear Mr. President, there are too many divisions nowadays. Please eliminate two. I am not a crackpot.

Ballard? Jeez, why not call it the Eagleson division while you’re at it.

I would say the Shore and Morenz divisions.

I’m all for the Bowman and Howe divisions. It bring a sense of history to the game. And it’d be better if you could get Canada to support the teams they have.

Bring 'em back!

‘Old time hockey like Dick Clapper and Eddie Shore!’

The Bowman and Blake Conferences. All of the other guys were owners/ coaches, so these two guys would fit.

And while they’re at it they should realign the conferences so that either all of the original six teams are in the same conference, or that they play each other a whole lot more.

Horton division?

I hadn’t realized they’d changed it…but by all means, bring back the historically evocative names!

(BTW, the first time I saw this thread, I read it as “Bring back Wales and Cornwall” – and was surprised that British devolution had progressed that far!! :D)

All the Canadian teams plus Buffalo and Columbus (AFAIK, the two Ameri NHL cities which know the wonder of Timmy Ho’s). Sounds like a winner to me. I think we should have the Horton division, the Amtrak Shuttle division, the Division where it never gets below freezing (the Y’all division?), and the They Have Teams Here? division.

Horton and Richard.

And yes, I loved the old division names. The change was an idiotic attempt to get more U.S. viewership on TV. It didn’t work, because people do not start watching your sport just because you renamed your divisions.

I hated it when they changed to named divisions! I liked the old East and West divisions! I was glad when they changed it back! The “old” division names you guys are talking about are actually the new division names.

More seriously, the way the divisions are set up screws over Canadian teams, since in both conferences, only one can be in the top 3 when playoff time rolls around.

(Oh, bitch bitch bitch…)

While we are at it, let’s remove the instigator rule.

How about a Molson division and a Labatts division?

Chris Berman of ESPN often refers to the old NFC Central (now NFC North) as the Norris Division, preumably because it includes three of the same cities (Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis) as the old NHL Norris.

Let’s see, if they did this for the NFL. The NFC North could be the Lombardi Division, the NFC East the Landry Division, the South I am not sure about (none of the teams in the division have all that much of a history, no offense to Tampa Bay intended), the NFC West could be the Walsh (as in Bill) Division or possibly the (Joe) Montana Division. The NFC as a whole could be the Halas Conference. Or possibly the Lambeau Conference, but the Packers already have a division named for one of their own.

In the AFC, the East could be the Shula Division. The North could be the Chuck Noll Division, or perhaps the Terry Bradshaw or Mean Joe Greene Division. The AFC South, like the NFC South, has teams that have not been around very long, or have moved, or have not had a long history of success. Since the Colts are in this division I think I will call it the Unitas Division, even though the team is not in Baltimore anymore. The West could be the Al Davis Division, although he is not exactly popular with people who are not Raider backers. The AFC as a whole could be the (Lamar) Hunt Conference.
