NHL draft and offseason thread

My God, BOS’s Top 6 next year:

Lucic-Krejci-Iginla
Marchand-Bergeron-Eriksson

How the hell is any team in the East going to beat that in the playoffs? Utter destruction. Yea, Iggy looked lost and confused on the Pens, but that’s because Disco Dan forced him into a North/South game on the LW. He’s going to thrive with Krejci and their system.

Only teams that are an issue, I guess, are the speed demon teams: Islanders, Leafs. But still!

How old is Iginla? Does he have anything left?

He’s 36.

He went out for his shift with the first team and refused to change when the second team came on.

Fred Shero finally gets into the HOF! It’s about time!

Other inductees are Chris Chelios, Brendan Shanahan and Scott Niedermayer, as well as Geraldine Heaney as a builder.

Seriously, Shero should have been in there a long time ago.

Heaney was a female player; Shero was the builder.

:smack: That’ll teach me to read better.

I think Tom Barrasso should have gotten in – I wonder if it has anything to do with his personality? Lindros too.

Probably had more to do with the competition. Chelios and Niedermayer are both worthy first ballot HoFers, and Shanahan should have gotten in last year over Bure or Sundin.

Did you hear that the NHL is going to let its players play in the Olympics? :stuck_out_tongue:

2013-14 schedules announced.

As were the new division names. The old Northeast is now the Atlantic because there’s 2 out of 8 teams that are close to the ocean, while the old Atlantic is now the Metropolitan Division because… well… actually, I have no fucking idea. It’s got 4 teams on the ocean, and 2 that are really, really close, plus there’s historical precedent - but I guess Gary wanted to have 3 geographically named divisions and 1 whackadoodle WhatTheFuckery division so nobody gets their hopes up that the NHL might be “going mainstream” and acting like an actual professional sport.

What’s more appropriate for a game that fetishizes history, physicality, and Manliness then the Metropolitan Division? You know, swanky cocktails and purple crushed velvet lounges. Or even better, what roles off the tongue right away: The Metrosexual Division.

Just think, if the Pens win the division next year (or the Devils/Flyers/Capitols/Etc) they’ll get a shiny new banner that says “Metropolitan Division Winner” - doesn’t that just scream hockey, as licensed by Marvel Entertainment?

Metropolitan division?

Metro-fucking-politan division?

That’s terrible.

Why are you complaining? Toronto now has a view of the Atlantic Ocean, courtesy of Bettman.

I’m as big a fan of Glen Metropolit as anyone, but this is a bit much.

My Caps open in Chicago. They’ll finally see a Stanley Cup banner raised.

Yeah, until Ovechkin punks out. Good luck with that!

This article has a neat map with the birth locations of every player in the NHL.

Edited to remove stupidity, I thought each pin was one guy, then I realized each pin was one city and could have many guys.

Not sure what that has to do with anything.

The Blackhawks will raise a banner at their home opener and the Caps will be there to see it.

Nice to see another New Jersey fan around.

My big problem with the Devils is how many 1-way contracts they have signed, and not allowing youngsters the opportunity to crack the lineup IE Zidlicky being re-signed really pissed me off.

As for Alfredsson to Detroit, Detroit’s main competition this season will be from Boston. It’s not like Detroit has to play St. Louis, Chicago, Nashville over and over as in the past. They aren’t exactly a longshot to play in the conference final.

Meaningless but there is not much going on in the summer. Pro Hockey Talkhas their take on the odds of winning the cup next year:

As you might expect, Chicago and Pittsburgh are at the top.
