Let’s get back to the monthly discussion threads on the NHL. Feel free to discuss anything related to the NHL.
My take is that the Coyotes will move to either Seattle or Quebec and the NHL will eventually expand to 4 eight team conferences.

I am still PO’d about Backes ejection and 5 minute Major for a perfectly legal hit…Jeeze the ref cost us the game!
I love these back to back games because of the compressed schedule. Stars/Coyotes last night as well as tonight.
I’m a little worried the Sharks might have their first loss tonight. Plenty of time left in the 3rd period, but still. 1-0 Nashville at the moment.
I’m just happy the Caps are no longer the worst team in the league. I’m afraid it’s going to be a long short season…
I love short seasons. They should do this every year, but start in October. You;d have the playoffs wrapped up by early April.
Anyway, a few thoughts:
I could go for this. Start up right after baseball ends it’s regular season play and wrap up the playoffs by Opening Day. That would be perfect for me as those are the only two sports I follow.
Well, our winning streak is over. Bleah! Nashville’s defense was too much for us. That and Havlat’s missed goal in the second. At least we it was an OT loss. Third shootout in a row.
Great effort by the Penguins this weekend. First a rout of Nj, and then, when a fluke goal from a bounce off the glass on a dump in tied the game in Washington, instead of rolling over, they notch 2 in 37 seconds and end up routing the Capitals. Nice to see it coming together!
Also massively underrated: not a single 10pm start for any of the East Coast teams. I will probably watch 95%+ of the B’s games live this year, and not having a couple of week long road trips where I miss all of the games is pretty nice in terms of the momentum of the season. For how annoyed I was during the lockout, I could not be more into the NHL right now.
The Caps seen to have moments of promise and then fall apart. Nt sure if that is new coach, new system or just support for my theory that the worst player in the NHL is a pretty good athlete. Marginal skill differences in any pro sport is pretty small.
People who cheer when someone gets injured make me sick. I don’t care HOW much you hate them, that’s just low. (Fans getting all happy about Sid getting hit last night – ugh. Stay classy, Islanders!)
One problem I think is that as talented as he is, Ovechkin is far too lazy to do anything. He’s all about style over substance, and he doesn’t want to put in the work involved.
LET’S GO PENS!!!
Stars make Alex Goligoski a healthy scratch tonight against Edmonton. Interesting move, Goligoski should be the Stars top defenseman, but he’s floundered around so far this season. Hopefully a night from the press box will serve as a wake up call, Stars really could use a playoff appearance thus year after coming close the past couple of years.
And so, the Bruins have traded Tim Thomas to the Islanders.
Ill be amazed if he ever plays another NHL game,
Canes beat the Sens in OT:D
Well one thing is clear 1/4 the way through the season. This season is going to be a hell of a roller coaster ride for the Wings. Between talent losses and injuries they aren’t a playoff certainly anymore. They are going to be dancing around the in/out line with ~8 other teams as they have good days and bad days.
Thomas should love playing for the Islanders, there is no chance he’ll have to worry about visiting the White House while Obama is in office.
I honestly didn’t think he’d ever come back if he “stayed” with the Bruins. I mean…the only reason he was still “with” them this season was contract/salary issues, right? He’s off living in the mountains, and could be featured on Doomsday Preppers.
I loved him as a goalie, he helped the Bruins win the Cup, but man, dude’s a little nutso.
Guin
You’d be hard pressed to name an arena where this wouldn’t happen. A perceived bad guy on the visiting team getting hurt would have any home crowd cheering. Just imagine Hartnell taking the shot that Sid took, the Pittsburgh crowd would be going nuts.
I agree – I saw it happen when Darius Kasparaitis knocked down Eric Lindros. Pens fans were cheering as the poor guy was crawling off of the ice. It made me sick.
(I think the only positive example I can think of is when Mario made his comeback from cancer and Flyers fans gave him a standing ovation.)
Aren’t most goalies “quirky”?
BTW, How many games is this schedule?
