Team Staal, because of Price and Subban. The Staal drinking game still applies, right?
How’s this for a stereotypical Canadian day - drinking beer, watching curling, and then hockey (well, the skills competition). Can life be any better?

I’m going with Team Lidstrom – I had to choose between one of my boys, and since I hate Ovie, Green and Subban, I’m going to go with Fleury. Sorry Kris!
Team Staal, since it has Staal, Skinner, Ward, and Patrick Sharp.
How can you possibly hate Subban? Just because he made Crosby and Richards cry because he didn’t back down due to being a rookie doesn’t make him someone to hate. He’s a fun, energetic, excitable kid who never stops talking, but he has both the talent and the stats to back it up. I love watching players that actually look and act like they love the game they are playing.
Did anyone notice that when they introduced Patrick Sharp, they had a Columbus Blue Jackets logo on the fog? If he doesn’t play for Chicago any more, someone might want to let him know, since he’s still wearing a Blackhawks jersey! Same for that player from the Sabres…I think the in-house announcer said he was from the Predators! Does that announcer always suck that badly? I mean, the list of players has been known for weeks, and it’s not like they were jumping out in random order and surprising him; they were introduced in order of jersey number! He also had no idea how to get the crowd going, just inanely repeating stuff the announcers on the ice said. Weird.
Despite that, I think it was a fun skills competition. I liked the backwards skating and the goalie speed races, though I would have loved to have seen a goalie shot accuracy segment too!
Well I’m a bit selfish, but I am glad there arn’t many Wings on the ice today. I do believe that they are worn down from so many years of deep playoff runs, many players in the Olypics and all-star games. Just too many damn games and not enough recovery time.
They payed for it last year, and this year is getting damn scary too. Good to get break.
That said of course I am for team Lidstrom
That said the game will be pretty cool. I don’t have much time to watch non-Wings games, so many of the eastern guys I really just don’t know much about their game.
No, because the jackass cut Jordan Staal’s foot and knocked him out of the first half of the season.
Sorry, I’m just not a fan. (And he jinxed you guys when he said the whole, "WHEN we win the Cup – lol!) I will say though, he was probably the best dressed on the red carpet last night.
But more importantly, I LOATHE Ovechkin and Green. I won’t be too upset though if Team Staal wins. The Staal brothers are awesome, and of course you guys have Tangers.
The accidentally-inflicted cut on Staal’s foot kept him out for a few weeks…it was the subsequent re-infections that kept him out for half the season, and Subban had nothing to do with that!
Letang’s hair flying in the wind during the shootout competition cracked me up. Like a bad shampoo commercial.
I also wonder how much Giroux hates having to go through life in the USA by the name of “Clod” (not that it doesn’t suit him…!) The mispronunciation is hilarious to me!
Hey – Letang has gorgeous hair!
Just half an hour left!!!
Hey team Staal! Are you actively trying to break Fleury? He’s pretty fragile, isn’t he?
If this was a real game, the goalie would have been pulled already.
If that was a real goalie, this would be a game right now. ![]()
On the other hand, Team Lidstrom has a lot of defensemen standing still in front of the net. I know they don’t really check each other, but they could actually try and do anything.
It’s all okay now. Typical evenly matched low scoring all star game.
He once finished a game with a fractured finger – which he didn’t know was broken until he saw a doctor. That isn’t fragile.
I love Staal being miked. Surprised there haven’t been any f bombs but this isn’t really the game for that. I wonder if it’ll happen just once, though.
Oh man! Thomas is way, way better than Staal. But hey, goalies are known to be “characters”.
Alright, that was an okay game. Not as good as (Theo) Fleury hugging Messier, but fun nonetheless. The cool thing is, and I kind of already knew this, it seems that NHLers talk the same talk us beer leaguers talk on the bench and on the ice. Now I have to see if Conroy wants to play on my team for the duration of the season.
Bring on the second half and the second season! Go Flames!
Don’t be misled my the size of his teeth…this is Fleury, not Leclaire!
That was fun, though I noticed that when Chara isn’t allowed to hit anybody, he kind of stands around and looks lost instead. I liked the intro - I think next year teams should be picked old-school style with a pile of sticks, but then they wouldn’t be able to get 3 hours of TV out of it.
A Honda’s not much of a prize, though, for guys who probably own Beamers and Porsches.
Anyone else think that Lidstrom looks like Sting?
I want to see a fight in the allstar game. Has there ever been one? Heck, Ovie threw his stick to manufacture a penalty shot.
