Interesting that the Canucks just posted that Schneider is going to start in goal tomorrow.
The Canucks have the Wings on Thursday, the Avalanche on Saturday, and the Predators next Tuesday, so no back to back games.
Are they showcasing Schneider for a possible trade? Don’t want the Hawks to get inside Luongo’s head again? Or just giving Luongo an extended break leading up to what is probably going to be a long playoff run?
Same thing happened last month when Canucks visited Boston. AV tried to use the “local boy” angle as a reason for using Schneider, but no one was buying it. Maybe Cory’s got friends in town for Tuesday only and Vigneault would feel bad if the didn’t get to see him in the net.
Maybe Cory is just a really great goalie himself and starts some big games because he’s pretty good. Many other teams would love to have the Canucks backup be their starter.
He’ll be gone this summer unfortunately, as he is a free agent and the Canucks won’t likely be able to afford him. Too bad, I wish we could keep the goalie tandem thing going. It got us a Presidents Trophy last year and we’re in the running again this year.
Guinastasia - What is the Pittsburgh media version of the Crosby neck injury. One of the early reports (which are not the most reliable) implied that the Penguins and their doctors knew about the neck and were treating it. Later reports indicated it was a new discovery. I can see why the Pens would know but not make it public because it could paint a target - “hit me here”.
Pretty much the same as everywhere else. The whole thing though about it being known all along sounds like a crock. (In fact, I never even heard of that one!)
It’s funny that you asked this now: Crosby just gave a press conference. It turns out to be a soft-tissue injury, which can mimic the symptoms of a concussion. So perhaps that’s why it was missed?
The weird thing is that after the Steckel hit, Crosby was complaining of a sore neck, not of other concussion symptoms, which is why he played again in the first place. The more typical post-concussion symptoms came after the Hedman hit, IIRC.
In those 4 days between games did no doctor examine his neck? You know, the part that HURT?
I know that there’s a lot we don’t know about concussions and post-concussion symptoms, but still… examine the part that HURTS should probably be part of the medical protocol, no? :smack:
Sure shows how little we yet know about concussions. I would have thought some of the best of the best were examining Crosby - but maybe they were more along the lines of Dr. Nick Riviera.
He should immediately demand a trade to the Canucks where they really do get the best of the best (witness Manny Malhotra’s eye surgeon last season, kept him from going blind in that eye).
