NHL Playoffs

That goal by Malkin tonight was freaky good.

Just because Ovechkin has a better shot does not mean that he’s an overall better player.

And frankly, a player who scores from the goal crease is way, way more valuable than a player who scores from the perimeter. The dirty goals in the crease are still available in the playoffs.

Besides, scoring goals in tight is no easy feat. Just being able to get the puck up quickly enough to get it over a sprawling goaltender is difficult.

Just chiming in to say that regardless of where their skill levels are now, I’m glad we’ll have Ovechkin, Crosby, and Malkin around to compare for quite a while. The league really needs flashy talent like theirs.

Here we go again:

**OVERTIME!!! **

I am loving me this playoff season.

Havlats got a glass jaw.

What a joke that was. Havlat gets caught head down with a clean check from Kronwall (he didn’t even leave his feet this time) and Kronwall gets penalized after the fact. And those stupid hawks trying to beat down Kronwall while practically standing on their injured teammate. This may be the most entertaining playoffs in a while, but these have to be the worst refs I’ve ever seen.

I agree, and I’m from Chicago and love the Hawks. I want to win, of course, but not that way. That was when Detroit was down 2-0 in the first, so it didn’t really impact the outcome of the game, considering Detroit came back to tie.

It’s funny. I really liked the 5-minute interference penalty when they brought it in a couple of years ago, but I can’t think of a single time I’ve seen it called where I thought it was warranted.

And Pittsburgh lays another beating on Carolina. It appears my prediction of the series lasting five games may have been a bit optimistic. Can Carolina do anything to extend the series?

I need Carolina to have a sweep if I have a chance on this bet.

The Blackhawks are melting down. I love it.

:frowning: If we don’t make it past the Pens, I guess it’s Let’s Go Wings!

Truth be told, I don’t. Chicago is playing dumb hockey today. Versteeg skates out of the box after giving Detroit a 5-3 power play and a goal and he skates right back into it? (Over)Eager skates over to a ref, shoots his mouth off, and gets ejected. And all of this in front of your home fans. Good show Hawks.

Its 6-1 Wings now. Conklin is in net and there is less than 3 minutes left. I thought this was gonna be close without Lindstrom and Pavel. This series is going back to Detroit and I hope the Hawks don’t shake this one off.

I’d be impressed if they do. This was their best chance to tie the series: no Datsyuk, Draper, or Lidstrom. Instead they wrap the game up with a pretty little bow and give it right back to Detroit. Even worse, Chicago can’t even blame the refs. Every whistle blown against them has been an easy call to make.

And mercifully, the game is over. 6-1 Detroit. An absolutely brutal beatdown. The biggest mistake Chicago made was lacing up their skates with their heads up their ass. A victory here would’ve tied the series and maybe forced Detroit into playing injured Datsyuk and Lidstrom. Now? Detroit could play their minor league affiliate in it’s entirety and still come out with a win. One more thing. Brian Campbell? You were a -3 today and your attempt at what you called “a gutless hit” when Detroit does it gave Hossa his second goal of the game. Maybe you should worry about your own play instead of everyone elses.

Trivia question
(I have no idea what the answer is)

What was the last Playoff game that 2 goalies played for each team? I have never seen it before that I can remember.

Anybody have access to database sources to look?

Well, they could win the next 4 games. A bit optimistic, I know. I was at the game last night. I fear that was the last game for me of the season. (A friend and I split the playoffs and he has the tickets to game 4.)

Canes out. Penguins advance. I’m smelling a rematch of last year’s cup final.

Wow. It was a good game, but when the Canes came out to score first I was hoping for more.

::sigh:: story of my life.

And unlike last year, I’ve got no idea who to pick. This might be a heck of a Stanley Cup Finals.

(I know, I know, the other series isn’t over yet…I just don’t see any way the Hawks come back)
