I think the Canucks can breathe a sigh of relief after that game.
It seemed to me, in the third period, that they were too content to sit back and defend their lead. Every time they shot the puck into Chicago’s zone, only a couple of Canucks would follow it in, and they let the Blackhawks bring it back out far too easily. They also turned it over too many times in the neutral zone, and overall just didn’t seem to have too much urgency in that third period.
Anyway, they seemed to regain their spark after the scores were tied, and i was very happy to see that goal go in with just over a minute left.
Not a good sign. Rafalski is great on the pp and another positionally solid defensemen for Detroit. Chelios is a steady stay at home, but can take some bad penalties.
And dear god, I can only watch the game on Vs…:smack::mad: This is gonna be mildly infuriating.
And it’s 1-0 Anaheim off a Detroit defensive lapse. Ozzie looks like he’s still having trouble side to side. I hope that if he’s still injured (and it looks like it), Osgood has the sense to step aside.
Talk about dirty shit; I don’t like this… I hope this doesn’t become a trend. When the Red Wings Franzen scored the first goal, Hiller was totally run over. The announcers said something like “a crash with the catcher at home plate”.
Then, Carolina ties the game and, well after the fact, the goal shooter (?) totally bowls over Boston’s goalie Thomas.
I think this is totally unnecessary. Capitals’ Brashear’s hit (and suspension) and with Detroit’s pending, I don’t like people to mess with the goalie.
Well that game wasn’t close at all. Hadn’t expected the Wings to take game 1. At least we got it though. Anaheim just took too many stupid penalties, and Detroit did a decent job of getting to the front of the net. Anaheim did a great job of negating the Wings speed and clogging everything up, but when they made mistakes (Franzen’s goal and Lidstrom’s second), the Wings buried them.
Yeah, have to agree with you on this one. I couldn’t believe a penalty wasn’t called. He wasn’t blocked into Hiller, and he could have held up a little, but he skated right through him.
PS, I think the Red Wings home red unis are the worst in the league. They look like they should have CCCP on their jersey.
Wait a second. Franzen running into Hiller after the goal (cause no Ducks ran into Ozzie at all during the game and especially not during the last 50 seconds of the third period) gets mentioned and Brown’s headhunting expedition gets no mention? You and Uncle have a strange little line determining what is excessive and what isn’t.
No, I *don’t * disagree with the hits Brashear and Brown laid out. They were both clearly blatent fouls and should be penalized. But as Stinky pointed out, both times the goalies were bowled over, the guys who hit them both could have stopped or at least skated around.
Again, just to make the point: I don’t like it when people hit the goalies unfairly. If a goalie gets hit in a legitimate manner, I won’t raise as much of a fuss. But to blatently knock a goalie down should be a penalty, regardless if there is a score or not. Besides, if it doesn’t, then people start to go into those little ‘you hit my guy so I’m going to hit you’ grudge shifts. And that’s just bad hockey.
