NHL: The Playoffs

The Kings have the ball! The Kings have the ball!!!

So, the presidents cup winner has won a paltry 7 Stanley cups in my lifetime, and a team with a losing record may win the Stanley Cup. Guess watching the regular season truly is a waste of time, after all!

Can I have a time machine? I want to go back to the 1970s. 60s. 50s. Anytime before, and including, 1986, really.

Habs will never be a dynasty again, in the 30 team NHL. Deal with it. Alouettes season is a month and a half away, got something to look forward to.

Also, the Expos might come back to life if Bud Selig ever retires/dies/gets fired/gets captured by bandits in the hills of Vermont.

Keep dreaming. That’s like saying the Jets will someday return to Atlanta. Anything is possible but I would put no money on that bet whatever the odds.

As for today: Lundqvist. 2 shutouts in 3 games. Stopping 36 shots. There’s a guy I would bet on. It’s nowhere near a lock but that’s the goalie I want on my side.

Go Als wooooooo!

I dont even need a dynasty; a constant contender with a Cup win every decade or so would be fine!

As for the Expos- I hate baseball so I’m a little indifferent to that. The Big Owe isnt really suitable anymore it seems and someone would have to build a stadium for them. I do recall reading that Expos merchandise is still a really good seller. I believe it, given as it’s everywhere.

The Washington Nationals won’t return to Montreal.

However, in the fullness of time, if (really, when; MLB will be around for generations to come, and the demand will be there) MLB expands, Montreal will eventually be a logical choice if an owner emerges; it’s a bigger market than most of the other options. It’s too poisoned now, but it will be a good spot for a team someday.

OK, reality bites. That may be a good thing. I think back to the last LA team that ran the table in the first three rounds of the playoffs. It’s when Magic was still with the Lakers and then he got hurt in the last round. IIRC, the Lakers got smoked in 4 or 5 in the finals.

I’m not predicting the finals but the loss today for the Kings may actually help them. We’ll see. I do think that whether it is the Devils or the Rangers they have been playing such tough hockey that they will be ready.

While I think that LA will be in the finals I have to pick the East.

And I will pick the Kings who are the odds on favorite now to win the cup since they also play tough hockey, but the difference is that they have fresher bodies and can consistently rely on 4 full lines to wear any opponent down; their play style is correctly labelled “grinding”…also, New York looked tired in Game 4 and it showed…and New Jersey hasn’t been consistent either; it’s like the teams are trading off wins because they let down after a win rather than the losing team picking up the intensity to win the next game.

I know that’s looking ahead, but I realize Phoenix isn’t dead yet…but hopefully they will be tomorrow. Smith was really great in Game 4 and Shane Doan came through as the captain…but to do that 3 more times? Good Luck with that…

Not entirely the case. While NJ does seem to take a period off here and there, their two losses thus far can’t really be attributed to that but rather one man: Henrik Lundqvist.

One could maybe make the case about Game 1 when the Devils were carrying play for 40 minutes but then shit the bed in the third period, but if it weren’t for Lundqvist it wouldn’t and shouldn’t have been 0-0 after two periods. Game 3 was all Lundqvist. I don’t have the numbers handy but the Devils absolutely dominated that game from start to finish and the score was not at all indicative of the way the game went. Had he been off or the Devils been a little luckier it would have resembled Games 2 or 4 far more than Game 1.

The Kings in the finals. Amazing.

How often has the number 8 seed made it to the championship, and how often has that team won it all?

Edmonton in 2006, but they didn’t win.

Go Kings!!!

No team seeded lower than 5th, or finishing lower than 9th overall in the league, has ever won the Cup.

And I believe that it was the '95 Devils in the strike-shortened season who won as a 5th seed/9th overall. I’m not sure that the lowest seeded team to ever win following a full season was.

Go Kings Go! Rest up after a tough series, but get back to game-speed before the next one starts.

Oh, man…I’m glad the Kings won THAT game, because the momentum would have definitely shifted to Phoenix if they pulled that one off in OT. That was a tough hit on Rosenthal by Brown just before the OT GWG, but the controversy will carry on whether that was a clean/dirty hit and whether it was late/continuation hit after the whistle. There were many missed and bad calls on both sides in that series though, so it really should come down to on how you made the most of what power plays you had in your favor. That’s where the Coyotes lost the series…they didn’t capitalize on that 5 on 3 for 1:30+ in the 3rd, and they gave up a short-handed goal AGAIN in the 1st. That game should have been 4-2, Coyotes, in regulation…they should be pointing at that and kicking themselves for those missed opportunities, not what happened in the final few seconds of OT.

Despite the score being 4-3, the goalies had some pretty monster saves, and a sizable dent on both of their foreheads.

GO KINGS GO.

It was a clean hit.

Oh, I thought so too…Jeremy Roenick just happened to agree with us. Here it is in normal speed.

Oh…and…

12 down, 4 to go!

:):):):(:):p:p:p:p;););):(

I filled out a form to be put into a drawing where they will select lucky fans for the opportunity to maybe buy tickets. On the off chance that I’m a winner, then I’ll have to see how much tickets are.

Still, how often do you get this sort of opportunity?
