As a Washington fan, it’s been an unexpected pleasure to see them getting such good results from their defense and their third-string goalie. I guess that’s why they play the games. I’ll be surprised if they can keep it up over time, though.
With all the discussion re: hits and fighting and what not, I am actually glad to see that the hit on H. Sedin was not ruled to be dirty. When I saw it live, I thought that it was clean. But I guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see what the League says about it.
And, apropos of nothing, there’s a guy sitting behind the Vancouver bench who’s wearing a black shirt that says “Sedin Sisters - Two Girls - No Cup”.
I laughed.
I hope Mario has given them a similar speech by now. (I was thinking Slap Shot too.)
**Crawlspace**, I realize you are passionate for your Rangers but you really need to step back and look at things more objectively.
I had my doubts about Pittsburgh’s defense and knew Fleury wasn’t nearly as good as some seem to think he is, but boy I didn’t see this complete meltdown coming.
The Flyers are no defensive stalwarts either so I figured these games would be high scoring affairs, but this is just ridiculous. Is it too early for the “Crosby wasn’t back to top form yet because if he were it would have been a different series” narrative?
I believe your characterization here is not only completely wrong and totally uncharitable in its assumptions, but unnecessarily mean-spirited and unbefitting an fan engaging in a friendly discussion about sports. I actually had lots more to say,at the moment about the lengths of Carkner’s and Hagelin’s suspensions, but I certainly have no intent of entertaining the sort of angry and insulting nonsense I see growing here. I’m no longer interested in contributing to this thread as a poster.
Damn…just found this thread…so late into the game…kind of like Vancouver looking for answers.
I guess all of those 1 goal games that the Kings went through this season has paid off last night.
I’ve mentioned at least once on these boards that I often have a hard time understanding people, especially while arguing, so I’d truly appreciate an explaination of what I did wrong.
My entire intent with the last post was to call out RickJay on his mischaracterization of my previous post wherein he rambled on for 3-4 paragraphs about how I wanted to give everyone a free pass if they’re a good guy. I in no way thought Hagelin should have gotten a free pass, as I said repeatedly, regardless of intent, they’re responsible for their checks. I simply said, having seen Hagelin play for 60 games, I can’t believe there was intent there. My opinion. I also called RickJay out for claiming to be the objective voice of reason while not once bringing up the Philips elbow to the head of Callahan. His objection that he wasn’t asked about it runs completley counter to his argument that he’d like to see all players fined and suspended equally, regardless of fan allegiance.
I further issued a hope that the Ranger’s replace Hagelin with a skilled player (Krieder) and not ramp up the nastiness by inserting 6’8" John Scott. I’m proud of Torts that he did so and we got to watch an actual hockey game tonight.
Please, tell me how my passion for the Ranger’s needs me to take a step back.
Please don’t stop posting here. I normally enjoy your posts, I just took exception to your mischaracterization of my post: namely that I thought Hagelin should get a free pass because he’s a good guy. I said from the begining he deserved at least a 5 major and game, suspensions are up to Shanahan, unfortunately for us all.
What I do find interesting, though, is that you’re still not talking about Philop’s elbow to the head of Callahan. No insult intended, but you’re claiming to be fed up with that kind of BS, but not one word to call it suspension worth, just (I paraphrase) the league will review it. Unacceptable.
VERY happy on the Adams suspension for Pittsburgh.
What an ass little Cindy Crosby is. “What was I supposed to do? Give him his glove?” How about you leave it alone, fuckwad?? You ended up in the box (again), you’re concussion-laden BUT you start altercations leading to more goals for us Flyers??
Thank you, Cindy! Go FLYERS!!
I’ve been enjoying this thread. I’ll admit to being a playoff hockey fan. I wouldn’t go as far as to call myself a bandwagon jumper. I like to see how the flyers are doing, because I enjoy seeing everyone in the city so excited about the team. It was a thrill walking home from the Phillies game the night of the OT win and be told of the win by all of the honking horns. I’m more excited for my friends, than for the team, basically. OH. But, I do hate Flyers fans calling Crosby Cindy. Come on Locrian, that’s tired! It’s posted all of the time by Philly people on Facebook - ugh. Or pictures of him in makeup. That’s something I would expect from kids in high school, not adult fans in 2012. Although, high schoolers nowadays are probably progressive enough to not do it. Maybe I have it backwards? The Hulk Hogan thing cracked me up, though. I get most of my unbiased hockey news when I come in here, and see what the fans of the other teams think. I get the excitement of Flyers wins the next day, or through cheers, not so much from watching the games.
Crawlspace, I think perhaps you are reading things that weren’t written. For instance, going by this thread, I do not think that RickJay is a Senators fan, just a hockey fan. Yet you said “…but stop claiming a holier than thou ‘I’m watching it completely objectively’ attitude.” as if he were a fan of the team. I might be wrong, and maybe he’s mentioned in other hockey threads that he is a huge Senators fan. I don’t know. I just know in this thread he has seemed impartial, and even picked the Rangers to win the series.
In addition to that you kept accusing him of calling the hit blindsided. Something he never claimed. He called it cheap. He said it was intentional. He said reputation was irrelevant. He never said it was a blind side hit.
If you want to talk about the other bad hits, that’s fine. But, don’t accuse someone of bias simply because they didn’t bring them up. He made a comment on this one hit being a cheap shot. This comment didn’t mean other shots weren’t cheap. If you bring up another hit I would imagine he would say the same thing about that one. The failure to bring them all up doesn’t imply that he approves of everything else.
Anyone who continues to use the whole “Cindy” garbage only shows their own colors. Not to mention trying snarking on someone having a concussion. (BTW, I believe your own captain is out for the season with one? Said captain who has a long history of being a goon himself?)
Oh, the poor, innocent little Flyers. Gimme a break.
Okay, maybe calling Cindy-- er, Crapsby-- CROSBY a child would’ve been more apropos. Honestly, the retaliation with Adams was caused by Crosby’s little antics. That is NOT what a captain does when his team is losing. This is the NHL, not “Meatballs”.
And I never called the Flyers innocent. They could’ve backed down too.
Rilchiam, word is that Mario’s seeing red. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near that locker room right now. Asham’s going to be suspended as well, most likely. Yikes. And I don’t know WHY Bylsma didn’t bring Johnson in sooner. Fleury’s suddenly falling apart – what the fuck is going on? Yeesh. I love my team, and I’m not one of those, “I’m embarassed to be a Pens fan, fire this guy, fire that guy!” but it’s so depressing.
My main problem with “Cindy” (likewise, “Sedin Sisters”, “Crissy Pronger”) is the whole sexist implications, that they’re somehow weak, so they’re women.
And don’t give me that bullshit that it was all Sid, either. Oh my god, he kicked a glove! It’s called psyching people out. Then there was Hartnell whining about having his hair pulled. Please. This from the guy who once bit Kris Letang’s finger?
The Flyers didn’t get their rep by accident. (BTW, keep yelling out “Crosby Sucks”! We love it – that’s usually when he scores!)
pricciar, that would be Cy Clark, aka Malkamania, aka “Sign Guy”. He’s famous among Pens fans for his kickass signs and custom jerseys. Everyone here loves that guy.
He’s recovering from cancer, and he visited practice awhile back.
He instigated a melee, as the captain. He didn’t have a duty to touch the lain glove for any reason. His answers in the interview were just silly.
Hey, I love watching the guy play when he’s healthy and I hope he has a long career, but coming back from concussion injury and starting a big fight KNOWING “my guys will jump in and protect me” means you are not winning the game. In effect, he helped the Flyers earn a goal on that power play.
And Giroux just grabbed Crosby. I’ve seen so many hockey fights with stuff like that (Mostly Flyers, admitted) where the guy who kicks a glove, grabs a stick, etc. immediately get wailed in the head. Good thing our rookies weren’t on the ice, or they might’ve forgot about any concussion history for the poor captain.
Bottom line, should’ve been kicked out for instigation. Would’ve kept him safer.
Maybe he wouldn’t get called a girls name if he could grow a beard.
If you are a Flyers fan, I should maybe implore you to remember the Cup finals a couple of years ago. Do you not remember Chris Pronger going out of his way to pick up the game pucks and make mention that he threw them away just so the Hawks couldn’t have them as trophies?
If anyone else, on any other team, in any other match up had pushed the glove in that manner, it would be universally considered to be hilarious and no one would give a fuck about it other than to chuckle at it.
I suffer from Crosby overload too, but the bullshit being spewed by Flyers fans about Crosby because of the glove is nonsense. If Hartnell had done it, or Pronger or Giroux, you’d all think it was the greatest thing in the world.
We seem to hash this out every few months in this thread - misogyny isn’t funny. Cut the sexist insult bullshit and grow up.
In other news, Canada won the IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championships. I never made it down to Burlington to catch a game, though I did watch about half of the tournament on TSN. I absolutely love Hayley Wickenheiser; so much respect for her! She is arguably the best female hockey player in the world and watching her play is amazing. Congratulations to Team Canada!
…or maybe if anyone else had done it it might be considered a penalty:
Depending on the circumstance I might laugh when someone knocks a glove away just as it is reached for it but I’d also laugh (and applaud) when that someone gets his ass kicked. It was a punk move.
