They should put that commercial in the next Firefly movie
I loved that game. I’m an ex-rabid fan and this is the first game I’ve paid much attention to this year. I tuned in right before the third period started (that was when I realized that The Outdoor Game was today) and loved seeing both teams jump right out of the gate and try to shove the puck down each others’ throats. That was probably the most exciting 1-1 game I’ve seen.
Hubby came across the game while channel surfing this afternoon and yelled “Hey! What’s this? Outdoor hockey? Cool!”
I really enjoyed the game. Classic style hockey, classic Pens jerseys, it’s all good!
I’m a little late to the thread but I have to say going to that game was totally amazing.
I’ve been to dozens of hockey games and all 10 home playoff games the Buffalo Bills have ever played, but damn this crowd was electric.
We sat in the lower bowl 26 rows up in the corner where the Sabres came out into the stadium. The place went wild. Both teams in their retro uniforms with tooks on the golies were a great touch. Snow flurries off and on, a squad of huey helicopters overhead for a flyover, and 70,000+ people screaming their heads off was priceless.
The only WTF moment was the singing of God Bless America instead of the National Anthem.
All in all it was a once in a lifetime experience. Now if only the Sabres would have won…
I loved it. Thought it wasn’t just a great game, but great theater, something the NHL hasn’t been for quite a while. I hope they have an outdoor game every season; at least one, maybe 3 or 4. They can’t do it every week, because it will just get stale that way, but sprinkling a few of these games through each season will be terrific.
And being a Flyers fan from back in the day, I didn’t mind “God Bless America” at the opening. Besides, it’s a better song than “The Star Spangled Banner.”
The Amp’d commercial is a classic, too.
C02 was in the cans – a cold blast to freeze the repair job(s).
It drew a 2.6 rating or something. . .the highest rated hockey game in a long time. I’d look forward to seeing such a thing each New Years Day if the NHL wanted to continue it.
Good game, too. I loved that bush-league shit that Crosby tried to pull. Loved seeing the puck getting clogged up in the snow, reminded me of the pond at home.
I loved Costas’ story about the “real” Ogie Ogilthorpe.
I would have loved to have seen some of the ponds they kept talking about these guys playing on. I had a great pond that I played on growing up, and even skated with this guy once or twice, but more frequently his younger brothers.
Please NHL make this a New Years Tradition!!!
It’s great watching a game with a crowd that enthusastic. Sure the ice repair pauses were annoying but damn if it wasn’t a fun game to watch. The Snow piling up on Crosby’s stick as he made the shoot out was one of those great Hockey images.
