Apologies to my good man spoke-, but screw college football. Today the NHL has an OUTDOOR game in Buffalo between the Sabres and Penguins. 70,000 expected. Nationally televised in the US.
I’m unexpectedly excited about this. Anyone else?

Hockey at the Ralph. I am so ready to watch.
I’ll channel surf over to it. Looks like there is a chance of snow during the game.
Well, the Sharks aren’t playing in the game, so I might not bother. Should be a good game, though, but I’m already recording a bunch of bowl games.
Someone needs to be sent to one of Bush’s torture camps for picking *God Bless *America instead of *The Star Spangled Banner *before the game.
Also, didn’t like the stoppage to clean and fix the ice surface.
Still, kind of a fun game to watch.
It’s been done before:
This is an awesome game!! We’re enjoying it, especially b/c we’re seeing things we NEVER see in regular games, NHL or otherwise. The puck’s unpredictable and for a nice change, size doesn’t matter on the ice today. It’s going to be all about coordination and puck control, your 240# of muscle mass won’t do you much good today.
This is the awesome game of awesomeness.
Will this game count at all?
I’m not really watching, but the ice patching was interesting - the scraper makes sense, but the spray cans they didn’t explain.
Brian
Yes, this is counts as a normal, regular season game.
That’s some big fluffy snow coming down. That toque the Buffalo goalie’s wearing is quite retro, non?
Go Google “Kate Smith + Penguins” that will answer that.
A nice game to watch even if the Pens won
Hey, it was a good game, eh? I hate shootouts, but today there couldn’t have been any other choice. Sid the Kid. I guess he’s all that.
The Kate Smith spell worked again.
Or even better, Kate Smith + Flyers!
Are you sure? I only caught a glimpse of the game but it sure looked like the Sharks were playing.
The Penguins were wearing sweaters from their first year in the NHL, which were light blue.
I did know that(actually I watched most of the game), but man, every time I saw #19 for the Penguins I thought, “Oh, there’s Joe Thornton.”
I enjoyed the game, especially since Buffalo lost. I just wish the Nothing But Crosby network would get over their mancrush on Sid.
I was at work today, but got to see the first period, and the shootout. Did anyone catch the Ryan Miller Amp’ed commercial? I startled a few people because I was laughing so hard. I’m sure it costs a pretty penny to put on an event like this, but I would love to see at least one of these outdoor games a season. And am I the only NHL fan who prefers the shootout?
Same here. I ended up watching. Good game. I like the shootouts, but I wish there would be at least 10 minutes of 4-on-4 overtime first.
The “Ralph”? Ralph Englestadt Arena?
Yeah, that was a great game. Reminds me of when I used to play pond hockey up in Minot. . . except I was NHL age and the neighborhood kids (ages 4 - 12) would skate circles around me.
Tripler
Yup, I learned to skate by playing the neighborhood kids on a pond.
