Does anyone know how the last scene in the Niagara Falls IMAX movie was filmed? It is a re-enactment of the 1960 boating accident in the upper rapids where a boy survived going over the falls, and his sister was rescued 15 feet from the brink. Their adult guide, a neighbor, did not survive.
FYIs: The filming of this scene seems “seamless” regarding the use of special effects, if any. My friend argues it was filmed elsewhere and overlaid on the Niagara background. But, you can tell when they do that. This seems too perfect. In a previous scene, the steamboat scene down the lower rapids used a full-size model and no special effects. I guess they were lucky to reclaim the IMAX camera.
The IMAX DVD has a bonus feature on the making of the movie, but they totally skip this - the climax of the all events presented. Did the director place the acting crew in harm’s way taking unnecessary risk? - Jinx
