I was watching this Triumph TR2 badge to see if it sold as it is one I need for my collection. With 11 seconds to go there were no bids at the $100 opening price. 6 seconds and 5 bids later it sold for $305:
The seller now has another offered at $107.85 but I can tell in an instant it is not an original:

(Seriously, sniping has been around for ages. It’s most likely all automated now, but I can remember waiting til the last few seconds to bid back in 1999.)
