yep, my son really hates that he is forced to learn mathematics in school, too…
I yield, because I’m resisting the urge to pull out the “If you prefer a dead child to an abstract principle” argument and I don’t want to use a weapon that’s quite that scattershot. We’ve had this argument before, quite recently, and quite a bit more bitterly if I recall correctly.
Oh, let me add to it. ::kinda an expert in this::
I think the reason they allowed Trowa and Quatra’s feelings to stay was that neither character is gay in the original and that the show was geered to an older audience. Also, YAOI (the american term for what japanese call Boy’s love) is becoming more popular to Americans. YAOI is stories of boys/men involved in romantic relationships with other boys/men that is targetted at women and girls. Most of the characters are bishounen or beautiful (very feminine) boys.
The producers of Gundam Wing said that the show was written for YAOI/Boy’s love fans, therefore, lots of hints were implied. A quick search on the net will reveal TONS of fanfiction devoted to the relationships between the boys of Gundam Wing. Some of the merchandise of Gundam Wing appeals to the YAOI fans, with suggestive poses.
There are PLENTY of series released in the US that feature YAOI and Yuri (female/female). Some of these are Revolutionary Girl Utena, Gravitation, Fake, Earthian, Yami no Matsuei, Hoono no Mirage and Kizuna. I’ve shown a lot of these to my own young siblings and they love a lot of the titles.
[sheepish grin] Sorry, I am having a horrible time trying to post on this board and when I first attempted, it was shortly after such things were said. [/sheepish grin]
To add to this lovely debate, I am a bisexual Christian. At first, I had a lot of difficulty with accepting both my sexuality and my religion, but after much prayer, thought, reading and the help of several of you on this board, especially Polycarp, I believe that God has said nothing against homosexuality and that the church will eventually change its position into one of acceptance and love.
I just feel that this argument (more in life than on this board) has turned into homosexuals versus Christians, and that saddens me, as I don’t feel it has to be that way.
