The trial of the Durham DA in front of the State Bar started today; the first witness was attorney Wade Smith. A photographer happened to shoot a picture of Nifong after the testimony.*

The guy just exudes class. Or something.
It was just the opening day, but Nifong sustained some real damage.
A low-level police investigator testified to discussing the weaknesses of the case with him. He reported Nifong’s summary as “You know we’re f*cked.” Nifong then went on to indict 3 lacrosse players without probable cause.
Is it just me or does anybody else want to pull up a lawn chair, pop a cold one, and watch this case unfold?

It ain’t just you. I want every gory detail, followed up by his disbarment and dismissal from the position he used this case to secure.
Followed by some tasty civil suits to eat up the increased pension that was the basic reason he ran for DA after saying he wouldn’t when he was given the appointment.
It requires the same amount of pub that his stupid case did. he should be equally tarred and feathered. Losing his license is not enough.
Oh, I’d say his reputation is pretty much shot. Meanwhile, is there room for one more lawn chair? I’ve got a bag of chips along with my knitting, and I do a pretty good Madame Defarge.
If there was ever another trial that needed to be televised, it’s this one.

Professor Johnson just posted that Meeham (the DNA test company president) testified he told Nifong a week before the players were indicted that there were no DNA matches to any of the players.

What kind of name is “Nifong” anyway? That’s reason enough to distrust him.
I didn’t watch all day today, but by the looks Court TV is covering it. It’s on their website “extra” portion, and I know they’re at least showing parts of it.
I don’t know, but every time I hear it, I can’t help but think of one of the W.C. Fields’s funniest bits.

I’m admittedly not completely up on this case, but why did Nifong persue such a stinker of a case so vehemently? Was it necessary for his reelection, or was it just to get his face on the news?
That is my take on it - he using it for reelection.
There is speculation that he used the case to get the black voters in Durham to vote for him; defending the 'poor black single mother" against the “rich white lacross players”.
That he ran for election at all shows he is a scumbag; when he was appointed DA he told the governor who appointed him he would not run for the post when the term expired.
