Lots of people fall for 419 scams such as the Nigerian “advanced fee” letter. ABC reported an estimated US$100m lost per year by US victims. You can find a lot of news reports of victims and their losses at the 419 Coalition news archive for 2002 (which estimates worldwide losses at US$750m annually).
