I review before a test by attempting to answer some random questions I think might be covered on the test. If I struggle with any of them, I pull that topic out and give it some hard study. Beyond that, I do my best to get a good night’s sleep. On the theory that whatever you review immediately prior to sleeping is best remembered the following day, as soon as I close my book and notes, I turn out my light and go to sleep.
I’m also an advocate of having a healthy, but not heavy, breakfast before a test.
I’d review some stuff to resolve any lingering anxiety, and then have fun. I was never the type to actually find tests nerve-wrecking, and to this day have never had that “don’t know what’s on the test” dream.
I NEVER studied in school…and I always had amazing scores, used to drive my neurotic friend that sat behind me in HS nuts!
I passed my PHR certification this afternoon. They give you 3 hours. I was technically done in 1 1/2 so I signed out with the proctor, went to the restroom and had a brief cry- because the test questions seemed to be running together and I felt that I had rushed. I dried my tears, washed my face told myself in the mirror that I was passing this test, dammit. Went through the freaking TSA version of emptying my pockets, lifting my pant legs, getting wanded to go back in and review the 77 of the 175 questions. After I hit submit, it asked if I wanted to participate in a brief questionnaire about HR certification testing. The screen showed my name and my results (albeit preliminary-2-4 weeks for final). I was relieved.
Off topic here briefly, but…that PHR test is a bear. Individually the questions aren’t that intimidating, but they design subsequent questions to be just similar enough, yet different, from previous questions to force you to second guess yourself. Congrats on your pass!
I never really studied either, maybe just reviewed my notes for a few minutes the night before. Usually would get the score that set the curve, to the consternation of my classmates.
It was a while ago for me but I usually skimmed/studied a little and then just put on some music and relaxed. Usually more metal than soothing though. I never found cramming worth the effort.
A very modest amount of prep. I mainly browsed here and there thru the material looking for “holes”. Something I didn’t quite have down pat or might be misunderstanding.
If there were few to no holes, this took very little time.
Cramming is just another way of not learning the material.
