"Night Stalker" Richard Ramirez is dead.

Good riddance.

I’m waiting for Governor Brown to comment among the lines of, “See? Died of natural causes! ‘Life in prison’ works! I’ll be waiting for your apologies over my appointing Rose Bird to the State Supreme Court in the 1970s.”

In the early-to-mid-'90s there was a popular bumper sticker. IIRC, it was about three inches square. It either said ‘I LOVE YOUR SMILE’, or ‘I  YOUR SMILE’ (red print on white background. ISTM there was some sort of border around it, too).

Anyway, I’d always wanted to get a picture of Ramirez, and slap that sticker on it. ‘Cause I’m all morbid an’ shite.

Being in prison, Ramirez was a non-entity and a non-factor. Now he’s still a non-entity and a non-factor.

Rest in Hell Ramirez

Well, although Ramirez was waiting on the death penalty, “life in prison” worked fine for him. Worked for Richard Speck, Jeffrey Dahmer.

And it’s working for Charles Manson.

And here I thought this was someone from the old series. Sounds like I’m better off not knowing who this guy was.

Fuck that guy.

Living in Orange County while that guy was on the loose was not fun.

Now we just have to catch the Original Night Stalker.

(The Cold Case Files episode for this guy was frustrating as hell. “This is the worst human being in the world! And we haven’t caught him yet.”)

I’ve thought that if the people of California wanted to abolish the death penalty they’d have a better chance just doing it for new convictions. People can see the logic in how much it actually costs, but it’s unpalatable to let Ramirez, Ng, et al “off the hook”, they’re a lot more visceral then unknown future cases. Connecticut only abolished it when it was clear that the perps in the Petit home invasion case wouldn’t be let off, the governor vetoed the bill when it would have done so.

You seem to be attempting sarcasm, but I’m not sure why. In what sense did life in prison “not work” in Ramirez’s case?

Okay, clicked on the link above, clicked on a few more which led me to the horrifying topic of “murderablia”…

I was amazed to find this page Supernaught True Crime Memorabilia

The prices for some of the items there are unbelievable! $7,500 for a handwritten note by Ted Bundy, $250 for an unused paper towel sent directly from prison by Charles Manson, and many other items linked to other serial killers. WHO and what kind of person would buy this stuff??? And who is this person or people selling this stuff?

There used to be a popular, local newspaper columnist whose column was called, “The Nightstalker”. He also had a vanity plate that read, “NITSTKR” (or something like that).

He had to change both because of this guy.
