Heres an in depth analysis so far How will the Nintendo Switch measure up to the PS4 and Xbox One? (update) - Polygon

It sounds like nintendos version of that android system that gamestop sold for 99 to me … expect a lot of mobile conversions to it

But it got rid of the motion controls every one desired the game cards sound like what they use for the ds …

what yall think so far ?

Given Nintendo’s significant content control-freak tendencies, expect worse modding support than the other notable content control-freak console, the PS4.

In other words, showing Skyrim proves nothing, because Skyrim without comprehensive and open modding IS nothing.

It seems that one can keep the Joy-Con controllers on the handheld all the time (or only take them off when you have company), but use the Pro controllers as your normal ones if you are concerned about the durability of Joy-Con controllers.

heres my thread and thought on it http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=807989

Off to the Game Room.

ETA: I alerted the mods after I moved it to either close or merge this one with the previous thread, at their discretion.

Yes, gaming tablet is a small niche. That’s all the more reason for the big boys to get involved. Gaming tablets are something most people have never heard of. This is iPod style marketing.

There is just no way Nintendo won’t do better than the entire current gaming tablet market. It’s just that small a market. Gaming tablets don’t have the software or support. Tablets just were never designed for gaming–it’s just people adding stuff to the tablet to make it for gaming. The Switch is actually designed for gaming.

And this is basically going to be their replacement for the 3DS and the WiiU. They have a huge built in market in portable gaming. But now you can play it on your TV, too.

Previous thread about this.

Merged two topics about this.

Is the Wii U the only Nintendo console not to have an exclusive Zelda, then? I presume Zelda’s next game is coming out for the Switch as well as the Wii U.

Other than Virtual Boy, yes.

Well according there was a posted developer list on gamefaqs and it was mostly Japanese companies that’s supported Nintendo in the past but seems they got a few back that bailed on the wii u

the current rumor is there’s gonna be a app store for it too so they’ll use that for fill ins if there’s a release drought…

I just can’t get excited about Nintendo consoles any more. I still regret my Wii purchase. It was great in concept, but didn’t deliver on the promise. I usually require 8 good, exclusive or almost-exclusive games for a console before I’ll buy it and frankly the Wii never reached that point for me. They promised good things with the wiimote addon that gave it full motion support and hardly any games supported it in the end. A waste of money. The Wii U has absolutely no appeal for me - no games. It really shouldn’t be a struggle to reach 8 good exclusive games but the Wii U has struggled. I look at the Switch and just see another console with a gimmick that falls way behind the competitors in performance. For example, Elebits for the Wii was a good game in concept. But that game CHUGGED. The hardware simply couldn’t handle it. I’m wary of this continuing to happen with Nintendo.

And let’s face it, Nintendo consoles have had no third party support since the Gamecube. I have zero expectations that anything quality will come down the pipes. I’m also incredulous that Nintendo thinks I would be excited about the 5-years-old, much-better-on-PC game Skyrim on their console. No.

If this is replacing their handheld line as well I will be disappointed. It simply doesn’t look rugged enough or small enough to work mobile for me, and that’s the reason I love handhelds. The GBA SP, the DS lite, and the 3DS were all perfect machines for their age that worked perfectly on the go. The majority of my gaming library is taken up by games for those three devices. But the switch wouldn’t compare to them at all. So I’m hoping this is only Nintendo’s console offering and the handheld line continues.

Um… Skyrim Remastered comes out next week (IIRC) on XBox One and PS4, so it seems pretty damned exciting to me.

The remaster is free on PC, which is cool. Will get me to reinstall for sure. But I think he means he doesn’t find Skyrim, probably without mods, an exciting prospect on a console.

It seemed to me that he thought it was the original Skyrim, so why would anyone be excited about that on a console in 2016. It was in the paragraph of 3rd party support.

Speaking of that, having NBA2k17 was definitely exciting for 3rd party support (though I am more a fan of the FIFA series).

Well he’s comparing to the PC version and even the remaster doesn’t stack up.

you know the first “app” for it will be some version of pokemon go

Thinking about the Switch as a box to just play Nintendo’s games is probably still right. Maybe there will be more third party stuff (it would be hard to have less) but who knows. For me that means it’ll probably be worth it, since I was more than happy with the Wii and WiiU. But someone who’s not big on Nintendo franchises might not see much value in it.

The 3DS line will get replaced by the Switch, unless the Switch completely tanks more or less immediately. One of the main points of this for Nintendo is to consolidate their development, which they won’t do if they’re still maintaining a separate handheld line. This is probably a good thing for people who are worried about a lack of Nintendo software for the Switch similar to what the Wii U got.

As for portability, I also do the majority of my playing on 3DS, and the Switch looks like it will work basically the same way. I play quite a bit at home, and anytime I take the 3DS out it’s in a case or a bag. The Switch shouldn’t be any different.

Here’s what it looks like to me:

We are going to INITIALLY get a lot of 3rd Party games. That’s a great thing, but as mentioned up-thread; Will these games sell on the Switch, or will people opt to get them on beefier councils?

I got a Wii U after the Wii, (not Microsoft or Sony machines, I’ve only bought Nintendo’s councils my whole life). I have mixed feelings about the two. The Wii was a phenomenon, but there are only a handful of games that I enjoyed on it… Mario Galaxy, (and Mario Galaxy 2), is my favorite game of all time though. The Wii was fun, but I felt like I was missing out. And I HATED the game droughts. The Wii U has MORE games that I love. Mario Kart 8, (aside from battle mode), is the most fun Mario Kart yet IMO. Super Mario 3D World was an excellent game, even though I would have liked it to be Galaxy 3. Super Mario Maker is a game I still play and I love it. Smash Bros. Wii U - I don’t own it or like Smash… but it’s amazing to most people. Another game I don’t own, and have no interest in; Splatoon… But that was a runaway hit for a council that didn’t have a big install base.

One of the things I didn’t mind was EA’s absence… but there are a lot of people who missed EA’s games.

This trailer Showcased a new Mario, Zelda BotW, Mario Kart, NBA2k17, Splatoon, Skyrim.

I’ll admit Skyrim was a lame choice. NBA2k17 is exciting, but I know more people who want to know if FIFA’s coming. So that leaves Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart. We know Zelda’s probably going to be the first to come out. All the games showcased were exciting and really blows what was showcased for Wii U initially out of the water. If there’s a plethora of 3rd Party choices to start showcasing soon, I’ll be very happy.

Things that I wonder or that concern me:

Is it a touch screen? What’s the Battery life? No Camera? What’s the cost? You can’t use the screen as a second controller, ala Wii U? Does that mean no more Mario Maker? What about Zelda’s BotW’s second screen functionality?

…and my biggest concern; When will Nintendo Switch 2.0 come out? This is not unheard of, especially with hardware like Switch.

My brother should be getting a PS4 soon… I’m not 100% sold on Switch, but at least I can chill at my bro’s place for some hardcore gaming if I got one.
