oh… and Pokémon.
Is it more powerful than a PS4 and Xbox One? Is it the next generation, or just an equally powerful system coming out kind of late?
right now everyones saying its an upgraded ninty specific NVidia shield
the thing is Nintendo is trying to have its cake and eat it too
in Asia traditional consoles are basically dead and the Americas and Europe are the only markets still buying them and those are even fading fast but they (mainly the US) still have gaming luddites that wont play anything that isn’t hooked up to the TV with traditional controllers
So there trying to say to one half of the world "look its portable but you still can sit down and play it old style if you want " and to the other half "look its still a console but you can play it in a car if you want … "
the current thought is its going to replace the ds line and theres going to be a ton of upgraded ds ports with it too
Looks like it’ll be similar (if not a bit less) in processing power as PS4/XB1 - so the later, but with a major portable component.
I don’t know… I’m a huge Ninty fangirl and have been since NES days. I loved the WiiU. It had some fantastic games that went mostly unsung because the console was not a big seller.
My disk drive went bad after awhile, and I never felt the burning need to get a new one.
Maybe the Switch will be a good alternative? I’m kinda into it. I think it’ll boil down to how much it costs.
Nintendo confirmed that it’s one screen or the other; you can’t use both the portable screen and the TV at the same time.
I doubted it. That’s a little disappointing.
If they can sell it for $300 or under, people might get it. It has the benefit of exposure too. People see you playing games like those on a plane, they’ll contemplate getting one for themselves. There’s got to be some sort of SreetPass component to the software too.
There’s so much we don’t know. Will Miis survive?
Nintendo is surprisingly unwilling to clarify a lot of things about this new console despite being like six months from release.
I’m guessing Amiibos will still be a thing with this console, given that they popped up in the background?
It looks to be a bit larger than a 3DS XL, which I can actually fit into the pockets of most of my pants (though it looks terrible!). Will be interesting to see if it incorporates 3DS features like Streetpass and the pedometer.
I’m cautiously hopeful.
While at first I thought it was pretty silly, I then thought about some possibilities that make more sense and would be pretty cool. Right now, consoles are basically stuck in one place. Sure, I can plop one down,m then yank al the cables and move it when I go somewhere, but that only works if I can get a television where I’m going. And I can’t do anything with them on the go.
With a Switch, I can take one with me in the car, on vacation - whatever. And while I wouldn’t care for a “normal” gaming tablet that won’t have anything very interesting to play, and it basically a overpriced and underpowered laptop, a Switch is almost guaranteed to to have fun, unique games. I’m not yet sold, but there’s definite interest.
Not really. The PS4 has sold 3 million units in Japan out of 40 million global, and I can tell you from my travels that PS4 and Nintendo Wii U consoles are on sale everywhere with big displays in consumer electronic shops, then there’s the rest of Asia. Console gaming is a niche in Asia but it’s a niche that shows no sign of disappearing and because of the sizes of the populations even a niche is a big market.
Also Nintendo has said that the tablet is the processing power and that there isn’t any in the dock, however they could well be switching cores off and running the GPU at lower speed when in portable mode and rev everything up to full power when docked.
Full reveal will be on Jan. 12.
I figured they’d likely wait until after the holidays to fill more in. They likely didn’t want to completely cannibalize sales of WiiU or 3DS games this year.
The screen is 6.2 inches, 720p, multitouch.
The controll looks like the head of a dog (? haha :smack:

Well it’s official now.
That launch lineup looks extremely anemic, they announced subscriptions are coming for online gameplay (ha!) and the Skyrim port for it appears to be the 360 version.
Die hard Nintendo fans will love it I’m sure, but I’m getting WiiU vibes from this.

That was about the worst that presentation could have gone, and… I still kind of want one? I skipped the Wii U, so stuff like the MK8 Deluxe and any other ‘upgrades’ that come along do have some value to me. $70 for a pro controller (and $80 for a second J-C pair!) is pretty hilarious.
I’ll be getting Breath of the Wild in March and taking a wait-and-see approach to the Switch itself. Though it does look fairly impressive. I could easily see myself going for the Mario, Skyrim and SMT games.
