Nintendo Switch

Been playing for a while. I really think it’s pretty sexy.

Things I’d like to get:

A stand. The A/C can be plugged in and the kickstand sucks.

Micro SD card.

Pro Controller.

Another A/C cord.

Really, the frame drops are only happening in dock mode - apparently there’s a boost mode for handheld that they must be using for Zelda. I have yet to have it drop frames where I noticed while playing at work.

Populated areas (dense forests, cities, etc) seem to drop on either first encountering them, or spinning the camera rapidly for me.

There isn’t a boost mode in handheld; in fact the performance is reduced to conserve battery. I assume it’s running more smoothly because it only has to output 720p for the handheld screen. Maybe there are also some effects turned down, but I haven’t noticed any.

The 1 2 Switch gameplay is as simple as it looks, but the presentation is pretty good. My kids love it - they played about 20 straight rounds of the boxing game last night.

I should have clarified further - the clock rate on the handheld is normally 2/5 of the docked mode clock; they have an optional boost that takes those clocks on the handheld from 2/5 to 1/2; this drains the battery FAST, but the handheld is super capable in this mode.

what gets me is the announced coming soon games … story of seasons aka the game formely known as harvest moon… romance of the 3 kingdoms and other classic koei titles those are pretty hard core japanese titles … I mean ill be in heaven but what gamer under 35 is gonna get nostalgic for nobunaga’s ambition enough to get a new game ?

I think they are targeting both groups. Nintendo realizes the power of its nostalgia - which is why they had the NES Classic Console, so it’ll likely try to get the 30+ group as well as the teens and 20s folks.

I can’t understand why they aren’t doing discounts for people who bought wii U versions of games to buy the rereleases on Switch. God knows the wii U didn’t have a big enough install base for it to make a huge difference to them. I feel burned by being an early wii U adopter so I’m hanging back on the switch for the moment.

Isn’t MarioKart 8 the only re-release?

They’re calling Splatoon a new game but as far as I know it’s just an updated rerelease. Also I would be absolutely shocked if they didn’t release some of the other Wii U exclusives, Yoshi’s wooly world, Super mario 3d world, Donkey Kong tropical etc given that they were well reviewed but poorly sold due to lack of console penetration.

ETA, Pikmin 3, Mario Maker, Wonderful 101 also.

I certainly hope that they do - looking forward to getting all of the games I missed by skipping the Wii U.

I ended up getting a Switch yesterday, and I am so over third person open-world games, but I still can’t put Breath of the Wild down. If it had customizable controls, it would be pretty much perfect. (Seriously, WTF Nintendo. I guess I should just be happy you let me invert the camera.)

I bought the Zelda game last weekend, but I can’t find a Switch anywhere.

I’m chomping at the bit.

I’m curious what Nintendo’s software ecosystem plan is. The Switch seems pretty clearly intended to bridge the gap between console and portable system. I have a hard time seeing the Switch existing alongside a future 4DS system. So, my question is in a couple years are we going to see some sort of Switch GO system with a smaller form factor and better battery life to replace the 3DS? That’s the plan that makes the most sense to me, and lets me feel better about sticking with my Wii U for the first generation of hardware.

I think they’re making it up as they go along but yet again they’re shooting themselves in the foot. They’re telling people to think of this as primarily a home console not a portable AND that it’s not the replacement for the 3DS.

As a result very few of their 3DS developers have signed up to develop for the switch… way to go to sabotage your own console. The smartest thing Nintendo could do is to announce that there will be a portable only model sold in future and THAT will be the replacement for the 3DS (and will run switch games). That would get all their developers on board.

In the eternal, if paraphrased, words of Zero Punctuation:

“Breath of the Wild looks good… But it doesn’t justify forcing us to buy a clunky new console with no backwards compatibility.”

I just can’t muster the interest to buy another 300€+ machine, honestly. The PC I bought five years ago still runs anything I throw at it, and Nintendo essentially holding the next Zelda to ransom (because there is literally no reason these games couldn’t run on a PC other than that Nintendo wants to sell consoles, and this is essentially the only argument to own a console over a pc) doesn’t sufficiently impress me. And now they want to bleed us for online play? Something Nintendo has historically been completely fucking awful at? Wat.

If I still loved Smash, I’d consider it nearly worthwhile to buy it as a dedicated Smash Bros machine like I did with the WiiU if and when the next installment comes out, but the last two times I did that, the Smash community went out of their way to ruin a game I loved by surgically removing all of my favorite elements from it, so I won’t be making that mistake again.

um, maybe you missed that Breath of the Wild is available for the Wii U as well? And it seems that its almost identical to the Switch version so you’re not missing out by buying that version.

Okay, post-E3 I’m definitely picking this up when I get a chance. Super Mario Odyssey looks completely bonkers in the best way. And Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle looks like Mario meets X-Com, which are two of my favorite franchises.

They also announced there will be a Pokemon RPG coming out next year. I’m hoping for a new Mario Kart and Smash Bros sometime in the near future.

I doubt you’ll get a new Mario Kart after ‘Deluxe’, which I didn’tbbuy because I bought the Wii U version + DLC.

Not any time soon, I mean.

I really, really want an updated version of Wave Race.

That would be sick, but I doubt that’ll happen.

What will they do with F-Zero now that Mario Kart basically is basically the same thing?
