Looking it up I noticed it is called The Purge for those playing at home.
It’s this commercial where a guy is going around giving away all his shit. I now see that the official explanation from the ad agency is that he is making “room for the person he will become.” Every time I see this I think the guy is at risk for suicide because he is giving all his belongings away. Am I the only one who thought of that? It certainly doesn’t make me think of buying a car.
If it has to be explained, it isn’t very well written. I, too, go with planning for suicide.
Even if you take the ad agency’s explanation, it doesn’t make sense as a car commercial. How does giving away cool stuff equate to buying a car? Who knows.
He’s not giving away all his shit, he’s just giving away shit he doesn’t want any more.
The last thing he gives away is his old Sentra, apparently to his younger brother, because he just bought a new one. I guess that’s supposed to show that that Sentras last a long time, although it seems a roundabout way of doing it.
If the dude were committing suicide, he would have given younger brother the keys to the new one, methinks.
OTOH, the last scene show them driving off down a street with one car in each lane, which means, if it’s not a one-way street, that someone’s in the wrong lane. OK, maybe he is suicidal after all.
