Looks pretty good on a super low budget of around $3k
My wife is a high school theater teacher. For 12 years now I have been trying to get her to do something science fiction. She doesn’t understand that people want to see the three R’s- Rockets, Ray guns, and Rowbutts. I’d settle for some aliens in outer space, so much better than “Anne of Green Gables” barf.
Great stuff!
Should be a musical though with set-pieces including
Ash “losing my head”
Kane “something inside me”
Alien “Growing pains”
Mother “tearing myself apart”
Ensemble cast “LV426 is the place for me”
There already is a musical sorta based on Alien – Bruce Kimmel’s* The Creature Wasn’t Nice/Spaceship/The Naked Space stars Leslie Nielsen, Cindy Williams, and Patrick MacNee (as well as Kimmel himself, of course). It features the monster singing “I Want to Eat Your Face.”
*Kimmel had previously made The First Nudie Musical. It wasn’t, really, but the film is a hoot, with Cindy Williams and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo of Ron Howard. Kimmel wrote, produced, and directed, in addition to writing the songs and acting in the film. It’s not great, but it’s way above MST3K-level fodder.
Wow! I’m impressed by what those high schoolers put together. It’d be great if Sigourney Weaver or one of the other original cast members could’ve dropped by to see it.
Sigourney Weaver and Ridley Scott have both praised the play, and Scott is talking about funding a larger encore performance.
They seem to have gone the “ask for forgiveness instead of permission” route with the subject of licensing. They seem to have lucked out.
My friend that works for a school district always ensures that all of the works performed on-site are properly licensed. You really don’t want Disney/Warner/Fox breathing down your neck.
FYI, the high school had an encore performance of this play on Friday, and Sigourney Weaver was there. There’s a brief video on Twitter.
