Just thought I’d note that it’s today.
Otherwise known as “What the f— is on all these peoples’ foreheads??” day.
Before you realize that it’s Ash Wednesday, that is.
I just sprinted downstairs to the fireplace for matches and a fingerful of soot, lit a candle and said a quick prayer. Now I have an odd blackish smut on my forehead.
Maybe I’ll get it together in time for Lent. sigh
I decided to be different and go to an Episcopalian service today. They have the most delicious bread! On top of that they were swell folks. I think I’ll be back.
Heh, the mass I went to had some hippy spread the love crap going on where they passed the ashes down the rows and you ashed the forehead of the person next to you. I felt bad for the person I ashed because, as I learned last year when I was an official asher, the ashes don’t stick to my thumb and the people get a vaguely gray swoosh on their forehead.
That’s bizarre. I have never heard of that.
I do like Ash Wednesday though. There is nothing like walking around with a visible symbol of your own mortality on your forehead!
The service I attended was packed. I don’t think I ever have seen the church that full. And people kept coming in a half hour late!
In other news, I think I need to work on my tolerence this lenten season.
