In April, Luftee Abdul Waalee, 48, was sentenced to three years in prison for trying to pass a fake U.S. Treasury check for $25 million at a credit union in Pittsburgh. According to the prosecutor, Waalee is a member of the “Moors” black separatist group that supposedly believes that each American is endowed with a secret government account worth around $600,000, based on a theory that when the U.S. went off the gold standard in 1933, it began backing its currency not with a precious metal but with the prospective labor of its citizens. (Because the Moors are smarter than everyone else, only they know about these secret accounts and can thus buy and sell them.) [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 4-14-04]

I been ripped off…where is my $600K US?
:dubious:

I know people can believe some odd things, and lord knows it sometimes turns out that the darndest things are real [just check various urban legends pages, like snopes=)] but really… I vaguely remember being taught in school about the US going off the gold standard, but why would these people believe that the government would give us [well, my grandparents actually=)] any money other than changing the gold notes and gold money itself into the new notes [like the various currencies were swapped for euros]

Not sure if this should go into the pit, but I think it is pretty mindless and amusing=) but feel free to move it wherever it needs to go=)

It must still be in the mail, I got mine last week.
