We just moved and there is a den-type room in the basement. For some reason one of our cats started pooping on the floor. One little turd a day.
Well, of course we had to put an end to that one.
I took a bunch of catnip and dumped it all over the floor and worked it into the carpet with my shoe. As one would figure the den was more like a kitty opium den for the first few days.
But guess what? No more poo!
Just thought I’d share that if someone else is having the same problem.
I just cleaned up cat pee this morning – pee or poop is practically a daily occurrence in certain spots. I haven’t tried catnip there – I’ll give it a shot.
Hmmm… We have a new cat who poops on the floor next to the cat box if we don’t clean it every single day. Not every day and a half – that’s too long to wait. Every day. Little bastard.
I’ll try the catnip, but I doubt it will help. It’s clear who holds all the cards.
Dorothy, the cat from hell, craps on the floor when she’s mad at me (the litterbox isn’t up to her Martha Stewart standards; her hapless sister Lillian has too-recently been in it; or she’s just in a mood). She’ll crap right in front of the litterbox, as if to say, “I could have made it inside, had I wanted to.” I caught her at it once, and she had such a malevolent look on her evil little face.
Atleast ya’lls cats have turds. My cat has had the poopy squirts for 2 weeks. Although he makes it to the litterbox, he either steps in it, or dips his tail in it. So, I’ve had to scrub it off floors, furniture, walls, laps and cat.
Oh man, I am SO glad I’m not the only one who has awful cats.
My cats usually use the litterbox okay, but I have a sick, slobbery cat. Mouth ulcers, so she doesn’t groom well. So she STINKS. And she likes to lay in various places all over the house, so THEY stink too.
Litterboxwise, my male cat took to peeing on my countertops after one of the babies was born. Oh, he was nasty. Until I got him neutered, anyway–now he’s just weird and fat and paranoid.
One of my cats gets personally offended if we wash his “private stench” from our blankets. So a day or two out of the laundry, he goes and pees all over all of them again. It’s gotten to the point where if he pees on them, we just put the pee end at our feet and use them a little longer anyway.
Don’t ask me about our couch. You don’t want to know.
I have two angelic girls of my very own, who generally make no trouble at all.
But if the litter is not up to my brother’s cat’s standards, that little bastard shits my bed. Voids his bladder all over my pillows. And when he’s tired of that, he usurps my backpack, my gym bag, and my shoes.
Wow - I don’t think I’m lucky, but my three cats never give me a problem. I have had cats nearly my whole life and have never had a problem unless there was an underlying cause - like moving, or introducing a new cat.
Tips: Have one more litterbox than cats. Ex: I have three cats, I have four litterboxes.
Keep the litterboxes clean. (obvious - some cats are very picky about the cleanliness of their boxes - scoop daily)
Find the right litter. Some cats like the scoop-able stuff, but some prefer the clay litter. Scoop-able may be easier, but I keep a couple boxes filled with clay for the cat who prefers that type of litter. Giving into the cats wants is easier than cleaning up accidents.
Keep the litterboxes out of high traffic areas -some cats like their privacy.
My cat rocks. I am so happy he isn’t a bad cat like your cats. He is going to get treats and special hugs and pettings when I get home today.
He used to complain if I let the litterbox get to dirty but now I have an electric litterbox (talk about a godsend) that a friend suggested I get since he has one. It empties itself 10 minutes after he uses it and everything dumps into an easy and disposable little container. I buy a thing of cat litter that used to last me for two litter changes (or about a month) and now I have to buy cat litter every 6 months. The little containers that they drop in are less expensive than the box of litter.
When I went away to college, my parent’s cat got all upset at me for leaving and started leaving little poops right in the middle of my bedroom floor. My parent’s solution? Close the door. And it worked!
We have numerous litter boxes as well. We used to have the Littermaid, but it sucked. With 4 cats it was just always going off and the little comb thing would get all caked up in wet poo in just a couple of hours :X
I had one of those. It didn’t work for my triumvirate. Too much sticky pee.
My three-legged arthritc kitty has been poo’ing in the corner lately. I may have to try the catnip thing to encourage her to use the new “lowrider” litterbox.
