Wow, I must be the only one here who hates the new name. “One World Trade Center”? Sounds like globalization gone rabid.
It’s essentially the same name the old buildings had, so I don’t think that complaint holds up.
Why do you think they blew the first ones up?
I know it was already said in the OP, but it bears repeating: Thank fucking god.
God help us. It’s #1 World Trade Center, all right? As in the original towers were #1 and #2. There may be some idiot in LMDC who thinks the One World thing is the point, but it’s just an address!
I’ve already run into that CTer.
That’s kinda the problem. Except with more emphasis this time. It’s like a “neener-neener, you can’t stop us!” attitude. If the only lesson we learned from September 11th is “We can rebuild! Go us!”, something is terribly, terribly wrong.
Thank you.
LMDC? CTer? Not sure what that means. But if it’s just the street number, that makes it a little better… but still, if it were up to me, I think the infinitely trite “Freedom” is an infinitely better label than the arrogantly defiant “all your trade are belong to us” old-new name. Be glad it ain’t up to me.
They had to call it this in order to get all their undelivered mail.
Does anyone know if they’ll be bringing back the 10048 zip code?
It’s a 1,776-foot building on the same spot as the old towers, which means it was way over the top to start with. At least they’ve done away with a stupid name that called to mind both the Bush years and a kindergarten level of showmanship.
I don’t think this has anything to do with what people learned from September 11th. It’s a buiding and that’s all. It’s not what I would have preferred be done with the site and it sure wasn’t my favorite of the designs, but now, they’re giving it a name that reflects the fact that it’s an office building and doesn’t sound like the headquarters for the Ministry of Truth.
