The parent university of Victoria College, however, can happily claim to have the only library in the world that resembles a turkey/medieval fortress/maple leaf (OK, fine… it’s a peacock, not a turkey… but doesn’t look all that much like either).
Most alumni can’t quite decide is this is something to be proud of, or just a really great example of why brutalist architecture sucks. I personally lean towards the latter.
Then maybe they should rebuild the library… out of snow… in the shape of a penis.

Not really seeing how introducing women into an environment deemed hostile to women is supposed to help reduce hostiltiy to women, especially since their presence will be bitterly resented and will likely lead to…hostility.
In general, I support maintaining these sort of institutions, even if they are only smaller parts of larger ones.
My wife graduated from a women’s college, sadly now closed. She feels that this environment was good for her. I’m sure the students at VMI felt the same way, and when that controversy was raging, students I knew from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, another women’s college, were traveling to VMI to support single-sex education there.
Choices in this area aren’t bad to have, and even if it leads to a bit of tomfoolery or bad behavior, that can be tolerated if the overall program is sound.
And really - Holding an entire residence hall responsible for the actions of a few bad apples? You may as well blame the whole residential life system. And if you’re going to blame the residential life system, you may as well hold the entire university responsible. And if the university is the problem, then doesn’t the real problem lie with higher education? And if we’re going to put higher education on trial, then shouldn’t we look to the whole country?
