I think this feature would be cool.
If you wanted to lurk in anonymity you could just modify your profile. When you were done you could modify it back.

Instead no one can use this useful feature.

Oh for heaven’s sake, people. It’s not like seeing the list of names on the index page would actually benefit you in any way since there’s no way to contact that person via that feature. And with the new feature of being able to see who the last person was who posted to each thread, you get the exact same effect of knowing who’s on the boards posting just by scanning the outside of each board. The only thing you won’t know is who’s lurking, and to that I say, so what?
Sure, people could turn it on and off at will, but doing so also disabled other things that perhaps they might not have wanted hidden.
I think it’s really silly to get all pissed off at people who didn’t happen to share your feelings about that feature and point the finger of blame because, waah waah, you didn’t get something you liked.
Some people liked it, some didn’t. The admins decided that protecting people’s privacy was more important than not, so they turned it off. Deal.
My point is that people could choose to have their privacy, if they choose to give up other options as well.
As it is, people cannot choose to give up some options to view the new feature.
Turning it on and off is Management’s perogative. I am hoping that they reconsider until they get more input.
