No Room for Logic (foreign policy)

Oh, that last remark wasn’t something that would win a debate. I was simply pointing out that Chumsky-styl leftists had already and long-since lost it, as far as the American people are concerned.

That view is simply absurd, and is a nonstarter in the U.S.

Chumpsky-style leftists aren’t paid much attention too by anyone on the left save the ultra-left wing irrelevant academics.

The right-wing though has done a good job in equating their views with that of the mainstream Democratic party because the Democrats haven’t suceeded in creating and promoting a coherent foreign policy in the first place.

And, also because the Dems haven’t done enough to dissociate themselves from the ultra-left in the public perception. E.g., when Representatives Jim McDermott and David Bonior went to Iraq and accused the president of being a liar, the mainstream Democratic Party said little or nothing to indicate their disapproval.

Hickory, do you actually have a response to Chumpsky’s quite valid points about Nicaragua? Do you deny that this was a case where the US directly interfered with another country’s democratic sovereignty because they didn’t elect the “right” sort of people?

Diogenes–

Chumsky could be right in every particular about Nicaragua, and it wouldn’t have the slightest bearing on the question at hand in Iraq. I won’t waste the effort.

And why should they. The president is a liar. Just because it’s considered kinda rude to point it out doesn’t make it untrue

It’s beyond rude to make such allegations while standing on enemy soil. Especially when the enemy is a monster like Saddam Hussein. The body language (and some of their words) came out as implying that Saddam Hussein compared favorably to our own President.

Senator Patty Murray had a somewhat similar dynamic when she incorrectly said that Osama bin Laden’s humanitarian aid compared favorably to US humanitarian aid.

Of the Americans who were aware of these episodes, most were very strongly opposed. What saved the Democrats is that these episodes had only limited media circulation. If they had gotten well-enough known to be joke fodder for Dave Letterman and Jay Leno, then the fat would have been in the fire.

“The body language” I think we have a new candidate for “decembers Greatest Hits” complilation. This is a beaut. A ring tailed ripsnorter.

Inquiring minds want to know, december. Precisely how did these scoundrels employ body language in order to besmirch and degrade Our Leader?

They flew to Iraq and put their bodies in Bagdad. Going to Iraq to make that statement was a dramatic way of showing respect for the Iraqi regime. The location of their bodies was consistent with their statement, which implied that Bush’s word was less trustworthy than Saddam’s.

Bonior and McDermott may not be harmed, because they’re from ultra-liberal districts. But, Democrats from more conservative areas paid a price for the Party’s image. E.g., Senator Cleland lost a close election in Georgia to a hawkish opponent. Democratic Presidential candidates will be harmed as long as the War on Terror is the top issue.
