Are there no smoking areas for workers at tobacco companies?
Or can you smoke where ever the hell you want? If there are no smoking areas, what would their reasoning be? It offends others? It’s a health hazzard?
(Note: I mean other than fire hazzard. I figure they wouldn’t allow smoking in a warehouse filled with cigarette paper or dried tobacco leaves.)
I doubt that there are “no smoking areas” in tobacco states, let alone factories.
Actually, I think there are federal guidelines.

The last “corporate office” environment with smoking I saw was in the late 80’s. I interviewed at Servio (now GemStone - OODB stuff), which is located in the Portland, OR area (Beaverton). Servio was owned by a guy who had made his millions flogging cigarettes in Southeast Asia. I was told he didn’t know the first thing about the software business, but was a sort of “software groupie” who decided to fund the business for the fun of it, the way other rich guys bought ball clubs and so on. However, his influence extended to allowing smoking throughout all their offices. Their conference rooms STANK.
I work near the Brown & Williamson building in Louisville, Ky. They have a sign on their door that says “Smokers Welcome.” I believe the only smoking limitation is in areas which would be a fire hazard, such as the room where the copy machine and shredder are kept (wonder which machine gets used more?). They have a nice indoor lobby that connects to the Galeria where smokers from all the shops meet to enjoy that rich, smooth flavor.
Told ya so!
Thanks, dreamlab.
