Not unlike a certain Far Side strip: “Step 2: A Miracle Occurs…”
Looks good, Bill. But I think Step 2 needs some work.
I was thinking of the Simpsons when the fanboy is annoying Xena about nitpicky inconsistencies in the show, and she responds, “Yeah, well, anytime you notice something like that…a wizard did it!”
And they all respond “Ooooh, yeah. That makes sense.”
Not to derail this or anything, but does Sebastian appear in the play?
I have been posting here for over three years. Doggy Knees, you get the first FUCK YOU I’ve ever posted. Be thee not proud.
For the other, reasonable folk, just because one jack-ass state legislator proposes something as a grandstand play doesn’t mean he’s representative of the entire state’s population.
By DesertGeezer:“unless you live in Talibama.”
The first American killed in Afganistan fighting the Taliban was from Alabama. Pick something a little more appropriate?
It’s not just this one episode. Alabama was also the center of the Ten Commandments debacle and just recently voted against repealing segregation.
I’m well aware that not everyone in Alabama is an intolerant, ignorant redneck but the concentration seems to be above average there.
I apologize for any offense, though. It’s not fair to smear an entire state for the actions of a vocal minority (at least I hope it’s a minority).
Dunno, only seen the film.
On one hand I’m irritated by people who combat bigotry and ignorance like Allen’s by stereotyping Alabamians.
OTOH, as somebody who is moving not just to Alabama but to Allen’s district in three weeks, the word “FUCK! FUCK! CLUSTERFUCK! AND MIGHT I ADD FUCK!” to this story.
Oh, my God, have you SEEN our state constitution? It’s insanity! It is the longest constitution in the world. A lot of people are just voting ‘no’ to everything until we can get a new one. Amendment 2? Was on the ballot right above an amendment allowing Mobile County to allot money to promote the shrimp industry.
It has gotten to the point that people don’t care what the amendment is, they just vote ‘no’ so our constitution won’t get any fucking longer. I mean I, personally? Voted yes. But I can see why people would not.
takes off Alabama Citizens For Constitunal Reform hat
Also, it looks like Amendment 2’s gonna pass on the recount. Thank God.
Damn! NOW you deprive me of the opportunity to claim that everyone in Minnesota is a total, 100% jerk. 90%, maybe?
VampyChick, there’s a thread in GD about the vote on the amendment and Alabama’s constitution in general. People don’t seem to want to accept that “NO” is the default vote on any amendment for a large percentage of the population.
Maybe it’s one of those “see to appreciate” things.
I haven’t seen new results on amendment 2 after the recount. I saw that “yes” picked up a few hundred votes in Lee County, but Lee voted 2:1 “yes” anyway.
Though I was irritated by the 2000 initiative on removing miscegenation laws from the Constitution, I do have to add one thing in my home state’s defense: while it passed by only a slim majority, the wording of that initiative was extremely confusing with much legalese and vaguness. I remember having to read the piece several times myself in order to figure out “Alright, if I vote ‘Yes’, does that mean I’m saying we should or shouldn’t remove the miscegenation laws?”, and at risk of sounding immodest I probably have better reading comprehension skills than most voters. There’s no telling how many people (on both sides) voted the opposite of their convictions due to the confusing phraseology.
What you say is very true, Sampiro. The only way to vote Alabama amendments is to get a sample ballot a few days ahead of time, take it home, pull out the magnifying glass and study. I’ve talked to many people over the years who found out, after an election, that they had “voted wrong” due to the wording. Sadly, most don’t go to all the trouble, they simply vote “no” on everything.
I’d guess that there is an average of six proposed amendments on the ballot every election, even the mid-term elections. It’s a bummer!
John Carter of Mars–Well, yeah, but GD scares me.
[bolding above=mine]
Imagine for a minute being resolutely UNintelligent. OK. Would you think two men were more likely to seek one another out:
a) to discuss spoken Sanskrit, universal alphabets, etc.;
b) to have HAWT MUNKY LUVIN???
But…it’s a show tune! (As in, “Who else likes show tunes?”)
Well, the joke’s on you then.
No, my argument is with you. You’re the one advocating that my money be seized by those bastards for the purpose of their personal luxury and power.
What constitutes “rich”? And what happens to the jobs the rich person was providing before you stripped him of his wealth? You know, frankly, I think you could use some education yourself, particularly on where all the federal education money goes. Spending on education has more than quadrupled since 1965. Has the level of education itself quadrupled?
No you don’t. If you did, you would go seize their wealth yourself. I can’t even tell what you mean by rights. Apparently, they are whatever floats your own boat despite whoever else’s boat they sink. What it is, so far as I can tell, is that you’re jealous of the wealth of others and want it for yourself.
BEEP BEEP WARNING! WARNING! DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!
Liberal Libertarianism hijack #2459569 is in progress!
;), of course.
Your rite people should be able to indoctrinate children with out having to worry about children being exposed to those pesky apposing view points
Opposing viewpoints :smack:
Dude… you’ve been posting her for over three years, and that’s the first time you’ve seen anyone make a blanket generalization about the moral probity/intelletual prowess of the citizens of Alabama? Where the hell have you been hiding?
Liberal: Still waiting for an answer to my question re: how the poor get an education in a free market scholastic system.
