Seriously. I’m not a violent person but I’d like to reach through my computer and strangle the OP.
Did you think it was unnatural and creepy last year when it was freezing through the month of May and it snowed about 20 times that winter? Or was that was all natural and wonderful?
This is a very mild payback for the hell that was last winter, which made many of my friends reassess their living circumstances and consider for the first time moving out of NYC.
News flash. Some people actually LIKE winter weather, not everybody likes the same things.
I also like my 4 seasons if you live in cold areas …it gets cold sometimes.
It just so happens that here in Utah we are getting snow and cold and its very pretty and adds to the holiday spirit.
Around here, rain and clouds in December IS pleasant weather compared to ice storms, blizzards, arctic cold, and the rest.
Yes, done all of those listed chores. While on a certain level I am enjoying the unusual warmth here in December that doesn’t mean I fail to recognize that such weather can either bring problems and well as benefits, or herald something unpleasant in the future.
^ I’m another one of these folks - my fall allergies haven’t shut off yet, it’s quite annoying.
If it’s climate change (I really don’t like the term “global warming”) then the circumstances you’re enjoying might mean mass starvation and dislocation for millions of other people. Yes, some people will be winners due to climate change, but a lot more will be losers.
Oh, yeah, totally. I first noticed it when I lived in northeast Florida, where in Feb. it was not uncommon to go from a chilly drizzly day with a high of 45, to a sunny day with a high in the 70s. For a couple of weeks. I’d feel great when it was cool and damp, then awful as it got hotter and more humid.
When I saw her last week, my allergist said that other people have been in with the same issue. So it’s a thing.
See your doctor and I hope you get some relief! I think I left mine too long; the stronger steroid inhaler didn’t help, so I’m taking the prednisone tablets. They make me nutso, but my lungs clear out, and as a nice side effect, my skin looks fabulous. Clear and gorgeous, with a little visible pink undertone. I did a great selfie yesterday.
I’m still taking my Claritin, which is just wrong! WRONG!
I want to have to shovel snow in winter. It’s meant to be cold! I hate the perpetual autumn that seems to be the British climate recently. Summers are average or slightly on the cool side; winters are mild and wet.
Often, when it is warm on the east coast of the US in winter, it is cold in the UK, and vice versa. Not this time. Both sides of the Atlantic are very warm.
This December is on record to be the warmest ever in the CET series (Central England Temperature), which dates back to 1659. And not just by a fraction - it is likely to smash it by at least 1 clear degree Celsius. In fact it is likely to be warmer than the warmest MARCH on record too!
I’m not saying it is down to global warming, but this is a pretty freakish El Nino year.
As has already been pointed out, it’s an El Nino year, so a milder than normal December was to be expected, and every once in awhile we have a mild Christmas. This isn’t the first time it’s happened and if we stop carbon emissions dead tomorrow, it won’t be the last.
Reacting to every warm spell or cold snap as proof global warming is or is not happening is just silly. This isn’t what climate change will do. That could be way, way, way worse.
Unless you’re complaining via a solar powered computer, through an interwebs that doesn’t have a carbon footprint, you’re part of the ‘problem’ you’ve complained about.
Global warming is natural. PERIOD. Nuclear war is natural. It’s all natural. It has nothing to do with natural, average, un-natural, normal, not normal.
It’s natural. How it serves or defeats us is the issue.
I’m in the Midwest and I want it to snow. I want it to get in the -20 to -30F range for at least a week or 2.
I can do without the Plains Winds (30-50 MPH).
I want the snow because that keeps the ground hydrated after it melts which keeps our aquifers going. I want the frigid temps because that kills off some of the insects and some of the sick animals.
I don’t want a repeat of the last few years of losing my spring flowers due to the cold deciding to show up late. Some of those flowers were on my fruit trees.
Here’s a weird thing: I’ve only seen a few skeins of geese heading south. I live on a river and usually I have dozens upon dozens of geese cruising over my house to land on the large pond just off the river plus some settle on the river itself. Usually there is a deafening chorus all day with intermittent honks at night. Not this Fall.
Was it creepy and wrong in 1889? Was that climate change too? How about 1923? 1920? 1881? 1907? Those were all dates that previously had warm temperatures on the East Coast.
People are so quick to jump to everything being Global Warming that it drowns out the actual issues since it’s Chicken Little every day all day long. If you keep crying wolf everything there is a strange weather event then you are going to desensitize everyone when there are real issues.
I don’t understand how so many of the same people chiding global warming deniers for saying that the unnaturally cold winters in the northeast the last two years are only weather, not proof of non-global warming are the same people now trying to convince us that this warmer weather is proof that we’re dooooooooomed.
If it was just “weather” when I froze my ass of for 10 straight weeks in January-March during record shattering cold and shoveled more than 9’ of snow instead of the typical 5’ this area gets, surely the last three weeks without snow and ice are just weather too?
Especially given how out of whack the current temperatures are. Where I am right now temps have been between ten and twenty degrees higher than normal through most of the month. No climate change model suggests that temps will rise anywhere near that much that fast. Yes, the probability of having temps in the low fifties, say, is a little higher if you start from a basis of 34 degrees rather than a basis of 31 degrees…but not by much. Blaming this month’s weather on climate change just encourages the deniers. (“But last winter, when it was above normal for three weeks, you said…”)
